Worried..Possible exposure
« on: October 12, 2014, 07:30:17 pm »
Hello everyone:
First of all I wanted to thanks all moderators for doing amazing job here.

I am a straight male 28 y/o living in Chicago. I am worried about two possible exposures with two different CSW. Both times (9/27 and 10/11), I had oral, and then, vaginal intercourse that lasted for about 10-15 minutes. I used condoms during both occasions, and I am pretty sure the condom was intact during the first event. But, during the second occasion (10/11),  I could not tell if condom broke, since I was pretty drunk. I know I ejaculated inside both times, and I did see the "white stuff" inside the condom, when I was taking my penis out of her. Wish I had paid more attention then!
Since yesterday afternoon, I have had burning sensation on my glans (penis head) that finally went away this morning. But, this morning I woke up with swollen glands in neck, neck pain, and some moderate fever. These symptoms are generally associated with ars symptoms, and that's why I am freaking out.
I know PEP is not recommended for insertive partner, and I also noticed Ann wrote somewhere that she has not seen an insertive partner to go on and test positive after condom failure (with or w/o PEP). I will get tested after 6 and 12 weeks, but I just wanted to know if I am at risk and whether I should be on PEP or not. Its been around 30 hours since possible exposure.
Thanks

You are correct ... PEP is not recommend for the insertive partner for condom break incidents and you can test at 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results . It sounds like you are not certain if you had a risk or not so if in doubt testing is the way to go .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks Jeff for your prompt response. I have decided not to be on PEP.

Just for my peace of mind, in your opinion, do you think I should come out of this incident OK? I know you guys don't dwell on symptoms, but I never had swollen glands before, and it happened this morning right after the incident, and that's kinda making me uneasy.
Thanks again.

I would expect a negative result as brief insertions rarely result in a transmission . It was a risk and you still must test though . Also ... if you press on a lymph node its going to instantly swell up and ache ... so keep your fingers out of them .
