Title: Preventing HIV transmitted through rape?
Post by: Ninjagirl1 on October 18, 2017, 04:00:00 am
This is a horrific question to ask, but I am soon traveling to a remote location in war torn Africa, where rape is very common and so is HIV. Is there anything I can wear inside me (I am a woman), or anything I can take to prevent the transmission of HIV if I do get raped.

Obviously this is a worse case scenario, but I would just like to be prepared for when I am in the most dangerous area (only for about 2 weeks - I'm a nurse going over to try help out).

Thank you

Pre-exposure prophylaxis ( or PrEP) taken by oral dose daily.  Standard is Truvada (TAF)

vaginal rings are still limited to studies and if the concern is rape than to be frank vaginal is not the only concern.

It would be best if you can start PrEP before you travel and keep taking it as long as you feel you have a risk of contracting HIV.
