Title: Shipping Medication to Indonesia
Post by: sturtevant77 on April 07, 2015, 09:10:08 pm
Hey all,
This is a really specific post but I am trying to ship a 3 months supply of medication to a friend who is living in Indonesia for the next 6 months. I am running into all sorts of trouble including needing an Import permit from the Ministry of Health there and having to fill out all kinds of customs forms. Does anyone know how to get such a permit or who I could go to for help? Any advice would be so much appreciated.
Another option is just to lie and hope it gets through. Has anyone tried this with other countries and been successful?

I would suggest you contact the American Embassy in Indonesia, or the consulate nearest your friend.  You might also want to check that the medication is available in the country OTC or with a prescription.  Importing meds internationally can be very tricky and even costly.  See what the Embassy suggests and then go from there.

You could also check any websites for the Indonesian government, as they may have information there on the importation of medicines.

I agree with Joe . Its admirable that you want to help your friend but if you do not do this right and the meds are intercepted you could be charged with a serious crime and open your friend up to scrutiny and possible problems in his country .

In a nutshell, just make sure the help you want to offer does not do more harm than good.

In My experience of buying drugs online.
Just buy it first, then afterward there will be a notice from the custom to fill the paper.
You would need to give doctor prescription and MSDS of the drugs (usually theres online information for that). Pay the custom fee. and they will send it to you.

Its easier, and most of the time cheaper, if your friend can just go to singapore or thailand to get the drugs. Its very cheap from here to singapore and thailand.

For regular supply,i mean for many years, going to local hospital is probably the best.
If the drugs is Tenofovir, d4t, AZT, 3TC, Nevirapine, or Efavirenz (and some protease inhibitor) your friend wont have any problem get it for free at local hospital.
