Title: Going on Vacation: How to Refill Out of State?
Post by: dcity on June 26, 2014, 04:22:25 pm
Hi there! I scanned through a few pages of forums to see if someone had asked this before me so I apologize if this is a repeat question. (If so, please point me in the right direction!)

I am planning on going on vacation for about two months this fall to California (I currently live in NYC). I am worried because I will leave with a 30-day supply of my Complera and will need to refill while I am away in CA. I am currently fully covered under ADAP in New York State. Refilling said prescription in CA, I am afraid of facing the $2000+ prescription bill. I don't have anyone here I can trust to pick it up for me and send it to me.

Does ADAP apply in out-of-state pharmacies? Is there a way to set up a mail delivery for the month I am away? Will a pharmacy send a prescription to a different state? Can I pick up two 30-day supplies at my Duane Reade? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

ADAP is a state run program though partially federally funded. You will not be able to get refills while in California. I really don't have any other advice on what you can do.

Thanks for your help guys-

I can ask the pharmacist. What will they be able to do? Send it to me or forward the prescription with ADAP's permission?

i mean put a bottle of pills into a bubble wrap envelope, into the plain old USPS, send it to wherever you will be staying or the nearest post office

when i backpack i do mail drops, i usually touch base before hand just to give a heads up, then label package

"HOLD FOR DCITY"

trick is going to be getting someone to do the leg work on the shipping side
