Title: Cruising the Inland Passage to Alaska
Post by: Lou-ah-vull on June 13, 2012, 06:48:58 pm
I am flying to Vancouver at the end of June to board a seven day cruise in the Inland Passage to Alaska.  I will spend Friday night in Vancouver (June 29) at the Blue Horizon Hotel and board the Holland America ship the next day.  Flying back to Louisville on the Saturday (July 7) I leave the ship.

Any recommendations for the one night in Vancouver?  The hotel is downtown and of course gay friendly.  Also, we will stop in Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan on the cruise.  This will be my first trip ever to Alaska.  If you have tourist suggestions, please feel free to offer.

Thanks to Bocker (Mike) who has encouraged me to try this method of vacation travel.  I loved the winter trip to the Southern Caribbean and I have always wanted to see Alaska.

Of course, looking forward to seeing you all at AMG in Washington, DC.

Gary

Shame you are only spending one day in Vancouver, such a great city.

Shopping, head to Robson street.
Gay things, head to Davie street.
Good restaurants, head to Gastown.
A nice walk, head to Stanley Park and walk along the path that circles the park on the water.

We did all these things during our 3 days in Vancouver, prior to cruising to Alaska.  They were all great, but the thing we still actually talk about (seriously), is the walk around Stanley Park.  Such and amazing place -- try to be there late afternoon and you watch any departing cruise ships leave and sail under the bridge that is there.

If you can do it (it's not cheap however) -- we did the helicopter ride over the glaciers and then landed on a glacier for a dog sled ride.  A ONCE in a LIFETIME experience.  We did ours out of Juneau.

Have fun -- Alaska is beautiful too.

Mike

Have fun Gary! Sounds like a wonderful trip.

While you're in Alaska, say hello to Sarah Palin for me. I understand you can see Russia from her house, so maybe you can also get to see Russia while you're there. :)
