What are the chances?
« on: September 23, 2017, 11:46:12 pm »
HI I'm new to this forum and I joined because it seems like a good place.
I'm a little of a hypochondriac and with my slight OCD small situations that would normally register on everyone else takes a whole new meaning to me as I begin to obsess.

In the instance, I was preparing some food for dinner. Minced beef burger patties. There was alot of runny blood in the packet so I was trying not to get too much to spill out but to my luck I may have had some flick into my eye. I went and rinsed it out with mild eye cleanser and then wash my face with facial soap.

Is there any chance for HIV to survive in this instance and be passed on through the "flick" into my eye? In the event the blood was from the butcher?
I know the more I think about it how silly this sounds but a little reassurance would help me let this new thing go.

I appreciate the help. Thanks

No, there is no chance whatsoever of your having been at risk for contraction of the HIV in the manner you describe in your post.  The HIV is fragile and does not survive outside the body.

Thanks for the reply and for the links to the info. It was very helpful and at this point it's really just my hypochondria and OCD playing in my head.

I know the answer to this one though, last night was having some chicken on sticks like a shishkabab. But into one that had what looked like blood. Didn't eat it though I'd chewed the other half.
The chicken was bbqed earlier and kept in a bag for about an hour or so and then I put it into the microwave for about a min or so on high. What are the chances of this being a risk if the blood had been human?

I know the answer but a stern word to put it straight is helpful with my OCD.

Thanks.

None.

The only way you are going to be exposed in your day to day life to HIV is from either sharing drug rigs or having unprotected intercourse. That is it.

See HIV once exposed outside the human body to the environment is no longer infectouise, the receptors HIV needs to infect human cells corrode thus leaving it unable to infect you. Your risk end there, even if it was human blood in your burger or chicken, on top this your mouth lacks the cells for HIV to infect and saliva also is hostile towards HIV, not that it matters as any HIV was noninfectious to start with in this scenario.

Your fears are utterly irrational and you need to talk to your therapist about them so they can help you past them, we can not continue to assist you in this setting with such irrational concerns. Its already excessive as you simply had no risk.

Now I say this from a point of kindness, as you simply need to move on now and stop focusing/stressing about HIV. Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums).

If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

Thanks for that answer.

I've got a new question but I dont want to start any new threads that may repeat themselves.
Tonight while riding on the scooter with the wife I had my visor open to get air in and we got spat on. Me looking forward with my visor open got a face full and some in my eyes. When we got to the restaurant I rinsed my eyes out but didnt check if there was blood or anything. When we got home I rinsed my eyes out again with an eye solution. Are there any chances? I'm getting worried.

I'm fighting my OCD so trying not to obsess. Please help.

Thanks

No risk.

Also already answered, HIV is not infectious outside the human body.
Where or when it happened does not change that its not spread this way.
