Starting Atripla tonight....
« on: October 14, 2007, 08:44:06 pm »
Well It's been over a year in the making, but I am going to take my first dose of Atripla tonight.  I am a little nervous, but I know that it's my time.

Hi Racing,

Good luck with the Atripla.  MY hubby and I both take it and haven't had any issues with it.  He has unusualy dreams occasionally, but I take mine in the morning, so it really doesn't effect my dreams.  It'll occasionally feel a bit dizzy, but that could just as easily be my hypertension meds.

If I were going to give any advice to you, I'd suggest avoiding fatty foods a couple of hours prior to taking it.  Back when I took mine at night, if I ate peanut butter, nuts, or any other really fatty food, I'd have a horrible hangover in the morning.  Oh, and drink lots of water (just general good advice there).

David

Edited 'cause I forgot to add... since being on meds, I feel a LOT better.  I have more energy, night sweats are gone, my skin is much better, etc.  I just feel good overall.

HI Racing,

Good luck - That first pill is the toughest to get down.  I've been taking Atripla for almost 2 yrs now (well, started as Sustiva/Truvada), other than some weird dreams and a distinct drunk feeling when I eat Krispy Kreme donuts near med time, it's been pretty uneventful for me.  Hope it's the same with you.

Let us know how the night goes!

Hugs,
Mike

Good Luck with the Atripla. I had funky dreams the first few days. Eating nuts close to pill time doesn't seem to phase me much but different strokes and all that. I just have a hard time getting the pill down so I cut mine in half and take it that way....

Firts two days made me feel a bit dizzy and dazed in the morning, but nothing too bad at all. Since then I've had no issues with the combo whatsover.

I know from friends (and people on here) it can take longer for people to get used to the Sustiva in the combo so don't get down if the sides linger longer then you hoped. My bet is you'll gett hrough the "getting used to it" phase and do great. If not, there are other combos to try so keep your chin up! It's all good...

The next morning:

Well I didn't have any vivid dreams last night, although about an hour after I took the pill I felt pretty drunk and had a *tiny* bit of trouble walking a straight line...other than that it was pretty uneventful...I'm a little dizzy this morning, but nothing I can't handle.  Thanks for all of you encouragement people...I'll keep you posted as the next couple of days roll by ;D

I started Atripla on September 21st.   The only side effect I noticed the first few days was a little bit of a "hangover" in the early mornings, and as you pointed out, the inability to walk a straight line.  The third day of treatment, I developed the dreaded "soft stool".  The 13th day, I got a lovely red rash all over my back and butt.  (The rash is gone, the 'hangovers' are gone, and the "soft stool" has improved, I'm happy to say.)   Good luck to you!!

I've been on Atripla for over a year now.  I started it shortly after it was released.  I was the first patient of my doctor on that medication and I brought it to him to see what it looked like.  The first night was pretty fun, as I have posted in the past I got a very strange "Acid trip" kind of feeling.  Now it's pretty much normal.  If I take it and stay awake I get the "drunk" feeling.  The other day my boyfriend wanted me to join him for a meeting first thing in the morning.  I had just gone to bed less than 3 hours before he came over and I was REALLY feeling the meds.  I could not walk, I could barely stand.  I don't know if it was due to the medication, lack of sleep, or both.

I also get the "soft stool" and also get the runs from time to time.  My doctor's office gave me some acidophilus along with Centrum.  When I start having those issues, I just take an extra acidophilus pill for a few days and all is well.

Okay, I'm not gonna do daily updates, I promise.  But the second night on Atripla for me was even less uneventful!  I didn't get the drunk feeling until about an hour and a half after taking it, and it wasn't nearly as intense....and woke up feeling pretty normal. Digestively, I am the same as always...I hope that continues although I guess it's too early to tell.  Thanks again everyone for your well wishes and input.  I am in a good place at the moment.  ;D

I started Atripla in early July this past summer.  The first night was quite strange.  Since then (almost 4 months) I have have virtually no problems.  Finish dinner by 7:00 PM.  I take my pill at 10:00 PM.

I usually also take a Lunesta sleeping pill at 10:00 PM.

I often get up at 2:00 AM for a bathroom trip and am somewhat wobble enroute but that might be age 66 legs, not the medicine.

Up at 5:30 AM and golf most mornings at 7:30 AM with zero side effects.  Am able to walk the golf courses and carry my clubs.

My VL went from 101,500 to 1,500 after 18 days with my CD4 jumping from 325 to 375.

Next med's in 3 weeks - will be interested in the results as I feel better than I have in 5 years.

Good luck.

racingmind - trust me, in my book 'uneventful' is worth reporting - we only tend to hear when it goes bad, so it's really nice to know it's gone so well for you - and it's good to know the meds will be nuking the virus into submission...  ;D

Good Luck --- hope things continue to go well.   I've just started month two on Atripla and have only moderate dreams that cause me to feel anxious when I wake up in the middle of the night, but nothing that is a big problem.   Besides the dreams I am not sleeping as deeply as before, but nothing too bad.   I'm anxious to get my #'s from the Doc on Monday!

Thanks everyone for your replies....things are going well on Atripla so far.  The drunk feeling has diminished, digestively everything is cool, and so far no outward signs (rash, etc.) have appeared.  I think this is a combo that is going to agree with me.  I have started to feel better as well (little more energy), so the first week all in all has been pretty damn good.  I guess I'm lucky in that respect.  Thanks again for all your kind words :D.

So, I've been on Atripla for 6 weeks now ... and got great news.   VL is down to 50 and CD4 is up to 537 (up 160+ since I started).   It's definitely working for me and hope it continues to kick ass!   Hope it goes as well for you racingmind :)
