Title: Risk from frottage and semen exposure, please advise.
Post by: worriedtx on August 19, 2010, 09:42:26 am
Hello everyone, I've read through these forums for a few weeks now before finally registering, and you guys have helped take a lot of the edge off of my window period waiting. Keep up the good work.

I had a potential exposure about 14 weeks ago. I do not know the man's status, though he assured me he was, in his words, "clean". I'm a 26 year old male, he was in his late 40's met him online. Went to his hotel, we engaged in frottage (his bare penis rubbing against my anus and in my crack - no penetration). There was some precum for sure, not sure how risky that is.

Beyond that, after maybe just a minute of that previously mentioned frottage, I reached behind me and gave the man a handjob to completion. He ejaculated on my naked buttocks.

What concerns me about this situation is that I had some cuts from shaving the day before on the area between my scrotum and anus, and that some cum/pre-cum could have gotten in them. Also of concern is whether or not some of his cum slid into my crack and over my anus, if so, could it get in and is that a risk?

I know many people say that hiv cannot reproduce outside of its living host and then becomes inactive. Well, technically speaking, when the man ejaculated, it left its living host, correct? It would have been inactive before it even hit my skin, as it was exposed to air/environment outside of his body? Is that correct? Does it really deactivate THAT fast? In a mere second?

I tested the very next day to get a baseline idea of where I was at. Test was negative. Tested again at 7 weeks, 5 days - also negative - just wondering how reassuring that is? I tested again this past Monday, which was 13 weeks and 4 days. I'm currently awaiting those results. Any advice? These were all blood-drawn antibody tests performed in the United States. I live in Texas, and had all labwork done at a new hospital in my area that was built in the last 8 years, so I assume all testing equipment is up to date.

You were never at risk of contracting HIV in the situation you've provided.

Thanks, Rod. From what I've gathered on here, at medhelp, and at thebody, I had a good idea that I was in a situation where I wasn't at risk, but I had to be sure, hence my post here and the subsequent testing. I was just concerned after the fact as there was a moderate amount of semen the man had ejaculated onto my backside, and I got the notion in my head that it must have slid down my crack and got inside somehow, or into a cut. I know, that's just me being a worried well.

I'm encouraged by my 7 week 5 day negative, and I'm sure the current results I'm waiting on (13 weeks 4 days is when I tested) will be the same. Thank you guys so much for providing the comfort you have during that long window period. And thank you all for educating people on staying safe.

You have absolutely no basis in HIV science to be concerned about this incident. HIV is a fragile virus and sexually is confirmed to have been transmitted sexually through unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. Anything else is strictly only theoretically risky. In the real world, it's about unprotected intercourse.

There is no need for worrying or testing on your part about this incident.

Thanks, Andy. I understand that now, I didn't really start researching it until a few days ago, as my window period was getting close as was my last test. I hope to have my 13 week results back in the next day or two, if not today. When they come back negative, I'll take that to the bank.

And just a quick follow up, just got my 13 week test results (13 weeks, 4 days to be exact from exposure to test). Big........fat..........NEG!

Thanks again guys for this wonderful forum. I don't know how I would have made it through the last 5 days of my window without reading all the advice and help from you guys and the folks at medhelp and thebody. While I know I initially had no risk, I have learned a LOT from this experience and will be MUCH safer in future endeavors.

Sincerely and happily,

Just another worried well :)

A negative result is always a happy thing even it if it was no surprise, at least at this end.

Time to get on with your life.

Cheers.
