I've spent seven winters in New England and two in the Midwest... and I'm STILL amazed when people say they love winter, the snow etc. How? Why? Oh Why?

I love the Plymouth Ice Festival.  I've gone several times and it's a true joy.

THOSE PICS TAKE ME WAY BACK WHEN MY OLDER BROTHER 'N SISTER WERE ATTENDING MICHIGAN TECH.(WHICH, FOR U NON-MICHIGANDERS, IS WAY UP IN THE UPPER PENINSULA AT THE END OF THE WORLD) ONE YEAR MOM 'N DAD RENTED A MOTOR HOME IN FEBRUARY AND WE MADE THE 10 HOUR TRIP UP TO TECH FOR THEIR ANNUAL WINTER CARNIVAL....ICE SCULPTURES ALL OVER CAMPUS.  AS U CAN IMAGINE THE COMPETITION AMONG FRATERNITIES AND GROUPS WAS INTENSE SO DETAIL AND SIZE OF THE SCULPTURES WAS TRULY AMAZING.

I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FESTIVAL HAPPENING IN PLYMOUTH....CONSIDERING OUR WEATHER FORECAST IT LOOKS LIKE THEY WILL BE AROUND FOR A WHILE....LOOKS LIKE A TRIP TO PLYMOUTH NEXT WEEKEND!

GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT ANOTHER "NEIGHBOR" HERE ON THE FORUMS! :)

It must be one of those weekends because we're having the Winter Carnival in St Paul, MN right now.  Up until the last two weeks, we haven't been cold enough to completely freeze our lakes.  They were actually going to build the ice castle with plastic blocks this year.  I can't believe they were considering this for a January in Minnesota!  BTW, your sculptures over in MI are pretty  :)

Great Pictures !!  A woman I work with, has a son that lives up in Michigan. She had shown me some pictures he had taken, just after an Ice storm recently. Actually the pictures were beautiful, really glistening under the sun.

As a resident of Northern Michigan....I  vote to ban winter. I guess it's better than the alternative though.

Nadine....  I love the four seasons very much.  I just wish this one didnt take up so much of my time!!!  ;D  They just finished up with Winterscol here in Aspen and they had ice carvings the size of cars out in the mall.   We will be looking at those till spring...   Brrrrrrrr...
