Shaving cuts on penis shaft exposed.

Hi Jim / Andy/ Ann.

I had protected sex with an escort. I did have couple hours old penis shaft nicks from electric trimmer that likely reopened during sex as i felt a sting. That part of the penis was exposed and went into the vagina. What is my hiv risk assuming she was hiv positive?

I hear its a theoretical risk and there were no documented cases in past but what are my chances? Seriously concerned

Shaving nicks etc are not HIV risk. Relax, move on with your life.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of HIV protection going forward.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

1.If the cut was actively bleeding during sex is it still not a risk?

2. How large should the penis cut be in order for it to cause a a risk?

3. Has there been any new instances of hiv through exposed penis cuts when using protection?

Hiya,

Look if you stabbed yourself requiring urgent medical attention and stitches it would be a theoretical concern for the person you had sex with. This did not happen, if it ever did I would still tell you to move on with your life.

Small cuts, grazes, nicks lack a route for HIV infection to take place asides from a few other barriers to your concerns.

Move on with your life, use condoms for any intercourse no exceptions and out of standard routine test yearly for HIV & STI's.

The short version is you did not acquire HIV through shaving nicks, no PEP for that is needed and that much is certain.
