Sports, Bleeding, and HIV ???

Played rubgy, soccer, and wrestled before being diagnosed w/HIV.

Stopped playing ALL sports due to fear of bleeding during play.

I want to play and participate again but do not want to endanger anyone. 

Advice?

Mike,

Don't stop playing sports. Nobody has ever been infected through an "exposure" which occured during a sporting accident/injury. Anytime ANYONE is injured on the field/court/whatever, universal precautions should be followed. That mainly means using common sense and good hygeine.

You're not going to endanger anyone, really, you're not.

I played sports for many years after testing poz.  In fact, it was the only thing that kept me sane for a very long time.  (racing bicycles).   Do not stop doing the things you love.  It's not like you're going to rush up to someone and inject a hypodermic needle in them.

I agree with everyone here.  I was worried about Mim playing sports not because I was worried about her infecting someone, but of kids' parents *thinking* she would.  Needless to say, she's been dancing for 4 years, playing baseball for 2yrs and not one kid has been infected.

If you love sports, play sports.

I like to think of HIV as penetratively transmitted stupidity. Note, penetrative to include needles. So in stead of worrying about whether you'll infect someone, just go do the things you want in an intelligent fashion. If other people are stupid and get infected in whichever way, then don't worry about it because they were stupid to begin with.

Well it makes sense to me - may not make sense to others.
