Post by: Longislander on December 11, 2006, 08:44:01 am
Yesterday was my 1 year anniversary of testing positive!

Congrats on the anniversary!  ;D

I always have thought the first year is one of the toughest because people go through a lot adjusting to this new part of their lives.

Keep up the good work!  ;)

HUGS,

Mark

Ahhhh one year under the belt!!   Things(mood wise) have been going so well you forgot all about it huh?   Sounds like next year may be even better!   I hope you are doing well today Paul and even I have noticed the sun in my neck of the woods :)

I think you passed the course, Paul, by forgetting the anniversary date.  :) That means, to me, that you are now 'in control' of hiv in your life or that hiv has become only a part of your life, and that everything else is clearly there as well.  I wish you and everyone else many more such anniversaries! Best, Win

Getting ready for work this morning I saw that today was the 11th. I couldn't believe I'd missed it!

In a way, it was something I've been looking forward to. Thinking if the year comes, and I'm doing ok, then things might just be ok for a while. (God , I hope a few more years anyway!)

Thomas, I'm happy the sun's shining a bit in Florida these days. Too many days without--get out the chainsaw and chop down a Palm Tree!

Win, over the past year, the main thing I've been able to control (for the most part) is my mind. I'm so close to accepting the fact that I have HIV, without question of why. The questions I focus on now are the same questions I had pre-HIV. That's a good thing!

Yeah, it is.  A VERY good thing.  And no small accomplishment, either.

Way to go, mate  :)

Congratulations!  And may you have many more.  I celebrate my HIV anniversary more than my birthday.  It used to be a scary, uncomfortable day for me, but now it is definitely a reason to celebrate LIFE.  At 40, it's hard to believe that I've been HIV positive over half of my life...so CHEERS to you...and may you have many, many more years to come.  I'm planning on sticking around for a while...I hope you do too!

Hi LI,

As Mark said, the first year can be really tough.  You've hit a milestone and just kept moving forward.  Way to go!   ;)

A "few more years"?  I don't have a crystal ball, but I'm pretty sure things won't just be O.K. for awhile or even a few more years, I think things will be O.K. for a very very long time.  Challenges will come obviously, you know that, at some point so will meds, just cross each bridge as you come to it and don't spend a lot of energy worrying about the imagined future.  You are doing great--trust me!

Paul,

Congratulations sweetie. Don't feel bad about forgetting it, I don't know the exact date of my anniversary, I just know the year. Since it has been 9 yrs for me, it comes and it goes, but everyone celebrates differently I guess.  Happy Anniversary.....

Paul, when you have to really try to remember that anniversary, its a good thing.  Unfortunately you will never forget it, but it does fade into the background as time goes on. Maybe next year you will have to mark your calendar?
Its great that you are feeling well.

Hey everyone! Not to stray off tpic but y'know we can pretty much pick any date for an anniversary e.g. the day you reached undetectable, or the day your T's rose above the 300/400/500 mark or whatever  ;)

Paul: Thank you for being you. 'Nuf said!  :D

Bear,

I don't try to remember it honestly, maybe I blocked out the actual day but I will never forget how it went down. I buy calendars but never put the things up anywhere, so I guess writing it on one won't work either. I was not trying to take away from Paul forgetting but just saying that sometimes forgetting dates happen..

Alex,

That is a good idea picking a date but I would prolly forget the new date too.. :P

Thanks everyone!

Alex-if I started making anniversaries for all that I'd go broke on buying my anniversary gift to myself!

Javicho-you're too sweet :-*

RAB, I think you're right on target. Part of it is not worrying about the future of this.

Now...what do I buy myself for my 1st anniversary..........................

Seriously, I'm not looking for a hookup at all these days. Was never my first choice of getting the job done, but sometimes a man had to do what a man had to do!

    Hi!
Best wishes to you for many years to come!! I just passed my 13 year mark a couple of months ago, got married 5 years ago (my hubbie is negative), have a wonderful teenage daughter and going back to school in January to study something that I love very much! Looking forward to three years til I graduate! Life goes on and is wonderful, even with all of the AFGO's (another f*****  growth opportunity, as my mother says!).
Tons of holiday blessings to you,
                                        Suzie ;D

Congrats on your first year. It gets easier as time goes on. Thinking back to my diagnosis seems long ago and far away.

My congratulation!!
I wish you not to be sad. I remember my 1 year anniversary 7 years ago. I wish you not to be lonely, I believe, it`s not just important it`s vital! You have HIV but it doesn`t mean that life is over. Make friends, enjoy youself, go out, travel and work! These are the things I do or did, it really works, believe me)))

Congrats man! The first year is by far the roughest! so it's all nothing but a party from here on out! And oh yeah, with a few elections sprinkled in here and there for your amusement!

Looking forward to sharing many many more!

Congrats on sailing through your first anniversary, Paul. I read that as a sign that you're doing well and life has settled into place.

Wishing you decades more of those anniversaries and may they all be as peacefully uneventful as far as HIV is concerned.

Cheers,

OK, for my anniversary, I bought a laptop/notebook so I can surf AM from the comforts of my couch or bedroom! Of course that meant a wireless router , too. And while you're at it, a new printer/copier/scanner. (when I bought new PC awhile back, it couldn't find my old printer?!).

Of course, after many hours, and a phone call to a great woman at Linksys, I'm all set up!

This is very exciting news.  Soon you will be thinking about missing the 5 year and then the 10 year anniversaries!  By the way, you can custom order a larger glass  :-X.  Have the best day

Michelle, Sweety, you're asking the wrong guy! My laptop came with wireless capability. I bought a wireless router for 69 bucks.Cable modem to wireless router, to PC, all wired. Once setup, when i turned on my laptop, it found the router, and i was all set! Any other details have to come from someone who knows what computers are all about!
