Meds & Facial Wasting Worries

This issue is probably the one Im most concerned about! Ive always been a tall slim guy, who eats like a horse often, just cant gain weight too easily. I am now the healthiest ive ever been knock on wood! Im worried about the meds causing sunken cheeks and other unsightly things. I guess it just is luck of the draw? Or is it inevitable? How about weight gain/loss on them.

Chile, you're stressing out far too much about these meds :).  If you intellectualize every possible ugly thing that can happen (whether it is a limp penis, sunken cheeks, or the idea of looking like the Michelin guy) you are going to scare yourself more than needed instead of focusing on the fact that you'll be controlling this critter. As one wise man said to another in these forums, these are just meds not pellets.
 
Today's combos tend to be friendlier when it comes to lipo issues (the one that you're going to start is not known for this).   It's not the way it used to be with older meds.  So relax; you will be OK.

Point taken, Rev. moon  :) Im going to try and relax and just hope for the best! being a part of this forum has already helped me feel alot better about everything!

 I wouldn't worry about it. Some people get it some don't. It is one of those weird things they really can't figure out anyway.

1997 is when I found out, being deathly ill. I had to go to the hospital due to extreme headache and fever. I fell coma like,  two months later weighing 95 pounds and in extreme pain and awoke to knowledge of Pancreatis, Cryptococcal Meningitis, Thrush,Severe Diarea,  Wasting, PCP pneumonia. No eating, only through tpn. Very sick, I was lucky I had good insurance with the company I worked for. I was in the hospital for three months that time. 
(2010 Now doing OK cd4=210  VL= < 75)
I have become resistant to many nukes and non nukes, Now on Reyataz, , Combivir. Working well for me not too many side effects.  I have the wasting syndrome, Fatigue  . Hard to deal with but believe it or not I have been through worse. Three Pulmonary Embolism's in my life. 2012 520 t's <20 V load

I am 6'3" and now tip the scales @ 215 lbs. When I was your age I could also eat like a horse and never gain any weight. I was always tall and slim and did not really gain weight until I turned 30.  I have now picked up about 10 lbs for every decade.
My IDS told me that in his large practice that he rarely sees any lipo problems with people that have our body type and high metabolisms.

I was tall and slim, high metabolism and got grade 3 lipo.  Need me to contact your doctor?

As you can see from the website they have a large caseload. I am really sorry that you have G3 lipo. If I can ask, what kind of meds have you taken in the past or are you taking now?

I got it from stuff I took in the 90's that aren't prescribed much now (stuff like Zerit).  Worry not.

Yeah, but my larger point was more that I'd never heard it stated that tall, thin people can't get this.  I just find that odd and, not only outside my own experience, but that of others I've seen over the years. In fact I'd say it was opposite.  It's the think tall guys that get lipoatrophy, while heftier types get lipohypertrophy.

It does seem that tall slender people tend to get thinner as they get older and heaver people get larger. Of course I am referring to the general population not + people persay.
I hope that in the years to follow that my meds will be kind to me and keep me well and looking reasonable good for an old guy!

Ms. P. is absolutely correct.  I was also tall and thin.  I developed facial wasting to severe grade over 10 years.  Also as Ms. P. stated much of it was attributed to the 90s medications including Zerit.  However, with facial filler treatments over the past several years, I am now quite pleased with the way my face looks.  Although I am a little less thin, I remain tall.  :)

I am glad that fillers worked for you, but again my IDS was referring to the new meds available now.

Zerit did most of my lipo I believe..Has anyone in Georgia (Atlanta area) found any docs that are willing to do the facial injections and medicare billing etc.?? ..so far, I have had no luck ..any info would be much appreciated.
