Slight vision problems.
« on: August 11, 2008, 05:11:06 pm »
 Hey all,...

So, I mentioned to my doctor on my last visit, that I've had some blurriness, and a little problem focusing, with my eyes. My normal yearly exam, wasn't due until December, But I moved it up to this coming Thursday. Ed will be going with me, since I will be dilated. ( let him do the driving  :)  Maybe it's just time for a prescription change, but if anything else is going on, I'll find out Thursday.

Ray,  I feel your pain.  I have diabetic retinopathy in my right eye and need another yearly (exam).

Good luck and let us know how things turn out!

Ray,

Hopefully you just need some new glasses.   Let us know.....

Isn't it aggravating to not be able to see?  It drives me insane.  And I HATE wearing glasses.   I was wearing one contact lens, but the eye I wear it in now has a cataract forming   >:(

I'll be glad when it is "ripe" and can be removed.   (why do they have to wait?  why can't it come out NOW !)

hugs,
Alan

Hi Alan/Betty

Did you ever have your glasses on, and start looking for them thinking they weren't on. Isn't that totally crazy ? I've done that a few times.  :P

I used to be able to wear contacts, but then I started having dry eye problems, and they became a nuisance. Every time I turned around, I was applying lube drops. One time, I lost a contact, it magically reappeared two days later, from my eye. it must have moved around the back, and I never realised it. Never irritated the eye , or gave me any indication it was in there. I thought I dropped it down the sink, when I was removing it !  :P    Sucks big time ! So, I was removing the one from my left eye, I blinked a couple times, and low and behold the other one came around to the front. CRAZY !

I've got a great eye doctor, hopefully, it's nothin serious. I'll check back on this thread Thursday, and let you all know.

Good night all----Ray

LOL.. Ray how many times have you poked your finger on the lenses to see if they were on.  :D Hell it's bad with contacts when you go to look and you can't see them.

Wait till you forget the day of the week or when you were born. That is scarey.

LOL, I've done that too ! Or you take them off, and lay them down, only to have to put on your old outdated spare glasses to find them, again !  :)

Just to add, Ed always cracks up, when I ask him, if he has seen my glasses, and he replies there on your face.  I still have my first pair of glasses, that I ever had, back when I was in my 40's. ( big old goggles) They were the minimum presription required. Ed is just now at 56, having to use them for reading !

ROFL, I'm not going admit to that. That would incriminate me. How can we always remember where are old glasses are?

Update :

Just got back from the eye doctor, and happy to report that all is A-OK. Had a thorough eye exam , with dilation, and visual field included, And everything is fine. No change is needed in my eyeglass prescription.

No signs of Glaucoma. Eye pressure was within it's normal range. Am having borderline problems with Dry eyes ( which he tested for) , but doesn't feel any prescription medication is needed at this point.. He gave me some over the counter "Systane" to help with that issue. Thinks the dry eyes, may be more age related, than anything else, But did say to limit use on computer, if possible. Also said that some medications can contribute to dry eyes, but did not know whether HIV medication can contribute to this, but also didn't rule it out.

Retina looks fine, no signs of cataract, or any infection, eyelids are healthy.

So, I feel good about this exam today, should hold me over for another year. Glad I didn't have to fork out anymore money for new glasses !

Great news Ray!  Glad there are no problems.

I think I have my first glasses (high school) somewhere...I'll have to dig for them.   They were silver wire frames, the "latest thing" for 1972.....

 ;)

hugs, Alan

Hey Ray,

That is good news regarding the eye check. Glad it was nothing.

I go on Sept. 2 for my annual eye check. I will need new glasses, so I already set aside the $600 for a new pair.

I am hoping my cataracts haven't gotten much worse.

I guess I will find out!  ;)

Mark

Wow Mark, that's the day I go for my eye checkup also.  I have diabetic retinopathy in my right eye, and a cataract in my left eye.  However, the last exam I had the doc told me the retinopathy had stabilized and the cataract hadn't grown any bigger.

I know I'm going to need new glasses also.  The ones I had I accidentally broke. :-\   I've been doing alright, just can't see small lettering at a distance.

Good luck with your exam Mark dear.

Thanks Betty,

I have a feeling the cataracts will be fine. Last year the doc said they weren't growing very fast.

But I think I have a bit of an infection in my left eye It may only be allergies. If it doesn't go away by Monday, I will need to get drops to get rid of this.

OH JOY!

HUGS,

I guess because my eyesight has never been an issue.  I never needed glasses when I was a kid, or even later.  Last time I went to an eye doctor it was for some inflamed follicle which was non-HIV related and I still had 20/20 vision.  I've not noticed any degradation in my vision since then, and as far as HIV goes in the old days everyone fretted about CMV but I never hear about that much anymore if your HAART is suppressing vl and your cd4's are high, so I've just not seen it as a worry.  But that's why I asked... I guess the least I could do is get checked every 10 years :)

I've gone to enough specialists for other things, so I try to minimize the unnecessary ones.

Yeah, I know it's a pain in the rear.  But, it might be a good idea just to know where things are at.

Philly, my dear young man,

Even though you are young and full of vim, vigor and vitality, you should have your eyes checked more regularly than you do.

All kinds of problems can arise and, as you know, it is better to nip things in the bud rather than waiting till there is a big problem.

So, I don't know if concerned is the right word, but maybe aware. Make an appointment with an opthamologist to see what he/she says.

Since your counts are good, you may only need to go every three to five years. I go every year because I am extremely myopic and at risk for detached retinas.

Get your eyes checked and then you can forget about them for a few more years. ;)

HUGS,

Mark
