Large Trial of HIV Vaccine Finds It Does Not Prevent HIV
« on: February 03, 2020, 01:37:18 pm »
From the February 3, 2020, edition of (online) POZ Magazine:

Lede and first paragraph:

In a major blow to the effort to curtail the global HIV pandemic, a large late-stage trial of an experimental vaccine to prevent the virus has discontinued vaccinations after an interim independent review found the vaccine demonstrated no efficacy.

The Phase IIb/III HVTN 702 trial, also called Uhambo, launched in 2016 in South Africa, which has been particularly hard hit by HIV. The trial enrolled 5,407 HIV-negative men and women who were randomized to receive a series of six injections over 18 months of either the investigational vaccine regimen or a placebo.

Vaccines for HIV fascinating I admit, same as cure studies thought the practical side of me says it has been in the works since early 90's, often each try claimed to be more novel and as such better expectations than the last ...

So now it's 2020 and the money & effort chasing these things could be spent on something we already know works and is far more effective then vaccines could even if we had one ... subsided or free to the user PrEP 92-99% effective and free or discounted treatment for everyone already living with HIV

Just a thought
