SAW CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF IN NEW YORK
« on: March 29, 2008, 09:01:34 pm »
I saw a my first New York stage play this week, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  The play featured an all black cast with James Earl Jones, Phylisia (sic) Rashad and Terrence Howard among the notables.   I admit that I never paid much attention to the story line of this play when I saw it on television many years ago.  Seeing it in on stage, however,  was a different matter. It opened my eyes. I was totally done. The play resonated with me particularly regarding family, friendship, love, and loss.  Although all the actors were very good, Mr. Jones and Ms. Rashad (with that  marbles in the mouth thick southern accent) were, in my opinion, superb.   Man, you can not beat great nuanced acting.  As my good friend used to say, quality always rises and waves a bejeweled hand.  Mr. Howard as Brick and the young lady who played Maggie were stood out.

I really had a great time and the theater staff were on their game.  One young lady in particular was fierce at waving the pin light and helping us find our seats.   She worked the rows!

Hey, congrats on your first live show!  There's nothing like some fine live theatre - and wow!  What a cast list that sounds like.  I know that show and it sounds like some great casting in those roles.  Glad you hd such a fun time!

I lived in Madrid for a couple of years in my early 20's.  The movie theater on the corner where I lived played the spanish version of the Elizabeth Taylor movie for almost two years.  It must have been a real draw at the box office in Spain in the 70's.  ;D Have the best day
Michael
