SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) — Naomi Campbell has been hospitalized in Sao Paulo and is being treated by one of Brazil's top specialists in infectious disease, the hospital's press office said Tuesday.

The British supermodel, a frequent visitor to Brazil, celebrated Carnival earlier this month in the northeastern city of Salvador. She was hospitalized Sunday in Sao Paulo's Sirio Libanes Hospital.

"The patient and her advisers have determined that the hospital's medical staff will not issue any formal or informal information on her medical condition," the hospital said in a statement.

Campbell, 37, is under the care of David Uip, a specialist in infectious diseases, and gynecologist Jose Aristodemo Pinotti, the statement said.

To be honest, when I saw Infectious Disease that is where my mind went. But since Ademas said what he did maybe it was something else. And if she was poz, it really wouldn't matter to me, it would just be another poz celeb.

Not counting community/political activists, as far as I know - Magic Johnson, Greg Louganis, Andy Bell of Erasure, Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and my favorite jazz musician Fred Hersch (not so famous in general, but known and respected in his filed), who write a cycle of songs based on Walt Whitman's poems... oh and Andrew Sullivan..

Hmmmm.. not counting the dead ones not that many really.

Honestly, I wouldn't know how many there are. I don't keep count but my point was if she was to be poz she wouldn't be the first or the last. It's funny to me when people become shocked if a celeb gets an STD or turn up poz. Last I knew neither STDs or HIV discriminate no matter how much money you have. All the money means is that they can afford better treatment.

i'd've thought that with the crazy lifestyles of these celebs, the drugs, the wild parties, the numerous partners etc, we'd have a whole bunch of them in the same boat. maybe they're more careful than i thought, or are pretty good at hiding it. can almost think they're immune...

I only realized recently that she was the woman in the SuperBowl commercial where all the lizards danced to Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Are you sure that was Naomi? I thought it was Ola Ray, the chick in the original Thriller video...Not sure what the topic was either but since he mentioned a celebrity, maybe we were suppose to take it from there and run with it. Like I said, I had no idea until I read a mention in the paper and was utterly surprised too. It didn't look like her the first time I saw it, but I think that had more to do with that awful hairstyle which obliterated her face in the little bit she was in the scenes.

Well most of the major gay porn producers adhered (many still do) to a strict condom policy through out the 90s, I guess because of that they didn't think it was necessary. Straight porn never uses that many condoms so I believe most producers do screen, but I remember there's been a few cases where despite the tests some (especially male) porn actors have infected a few female co-stars.

Now that bareback porn has become the mainstream in gay porn and many producers are casting lots of young and highly, er, I am afraid to say, disposable Eastern European kids, it seems no one cares about testing, though I recently heard one major bareback gay porn producer in the US has started screening their actors for HIV and STDs, which is kind of pointless really.

Yes, they regularly screen the straight side of the business as they don't employ condoms. Considering the size of the heterosexual porn business there have been remarkably few HIV infections from what I can tell.
