Title: Is Tenvir-EM alone effective PEP?
Post by: A_Man on January 24, 2017, 12:41:03 am
I have a risk of HIV exposure 2 weeks ago by having vaginal intercourse with a woman who I know her in the internet only 2 days. And she is in the last day of period so I saw her blood on my finger after I put my finger in her vagina for masturbation. I worn a condom but it was broken (Don't know when). Immediately in the morning, I brought her to clinic and test for HIV, the result come up 2 days later, shown "HIV ag/ab - Not detected" by ECLIA method.

However, I also went to see a doctor asking for PEP (about 14 hours after HIV possible exposure). Doctor prescribed me only Tenvir-EM for 30 tablets.

My questions are.

1.Is Tenvir-EM alone effective PEP? If not, please kindly recommend.
2.Is the HIV-ag/ab indicated 4th generation test? So the window period for this test should be 4 weeks, right?
3.When should I do the HIV ag/ab test? Immediate after finish PEP?

Thank you very much.

Hi

I moved your post to this section as the section you had posted in is only for people living with HIV.  If you had a risk or a question you can post in here in this thread, the rest of the forum is off limits.

EDIT.
Just saw the broken condom part, yeah small risk. Look test 6 & 13 weeks after finishing the PEP course for HIV.

As for the medication your taking, finish the course as prescribed now you started it. Tenvir-EM is a generic version of Truvada for PEP this is normally recommended with another drug however can be taking alone.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing (https://poz.com/basics/hiv-basics/hiv-testing)

Kind regards

Jim
