Hi,
Roughly a year ago I fooled around on my pregnant wife, which makes me a bona fide shit, I realize. In any case, the baby is now here and he's beautiful but has had unrelenting diarrhea for over a week now. I'm terrified this could be some kind of HIV-related cryptosporidium or something. (I know babies get the runs more often than not but this has persisted.) The standard HIV tests were run on both my wife and, I believe, him, when he was born, and all were negative. But we did continue to have sex throughout the pregnancy, so is there a chance of a late seroconversion and then infection through breastfeeding in the months since? My mind tends to do cartwheels so I would love to know if I'm worrying unnecessarily or if this is a legitimate concern. I didn't have sex with the girl but did go down on her for about two minutes at best. My oral health is not great, chronic gingivitis. She also briefly went down on me, if that's relevant. The transmission risk section of this site mentions two cases of oral-vaginal transmission, one woman-to-woman and one woman-to-male. The thought that i might have infected both my wife and child is about the biggest whopper of ratshit imaginable, so if you have any advice, I'd really appreciate it. You are worrying needlessly without any basis in HIV science about HIV. Your saliva contains over a dozen elements and proteins which very effectively prevent the transmission of HIV when giving oral sex. And receiving oral sex is absolutely not in any way a risk for transmission.

There is no need for testing nor for further concern on your part. Your baby's diarrhea has nothing to do with HIV. His pediatrician will figure out what is happening to cause his diarrhea.

This is really all about guilt and not any real risk for HIV. Cut it out and get on with your life.

I'm glad this site exists. I know hypochondriacs like myself can spin anything into a pretzel, but it's good to have people agitating for sanity. Thanks again for the quick response and the sage advice. Will talk to the pediatrician
