Is it me or was that a boring final?  The players seemed to fight all time and no one received a red card.  I know it's all about letting the players play but they didn't seem to be playing!

It was two very equal teams so the game didn't offer much variety.

Johnny Heitinga (Netherlands) got sent off at 109 minutes after picking up a red card. The Netherlands had a total of eight yellow cards and one red. Spain had five yellow cards.

I thought the overtime was the best part of the match and I even cheered when Spain made their goal, even though I was rooting for the Netherlands. It was just good to see a goal finally being made after all those balls flying over the bar.

And I was relieved to not have to watch a penalty shoot out. It's the only time I bite my nails since I was a little kid.

Well done Spain. Good thing I didn't place any bets on the Netherlands (I generally don't gamble - not with money, anyway!) because I'd be pissed off and poorer today. :)

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Sigh. Everytime, the WC is over, I fall into an empty void. No more betting, no vuvuzelas, no players exchanging their sweaty shirts, no flags, no drama. It usually takes me a week or so to recover and fill the vacuum.

From what I heard, the organisation of the WC was better than expected. But there's not much talk about other issues: Lots of giant stadions left over in SA, will they ever get filled again? And did the WC work out economically? Billions that went to the WC instead of HIV care or providing for the poor. What do you think? Will Brazil 2014 be any better?

You're right.  It is a bit depressing now.  Oh well....we have the Olympics in two years!

Finals are often boring in a lot of sports - teams too hesitant/scared to do something wrong. It's usually the game before that the best football is played.

London will go off during the Olympics, Cliff. Make sure you are there and get to as many events as possible. I had a blast back in 2000. Sydney rocked for a couple of weeks there.
