"Distancing" my Celtic tush. From the start, far from facing up to what has happened, Ratzinger has seen the scandal of abuse by Catholic clergy and religious as a golden opportunity to do two things: blame the whole thing on 'homosexuality' and clamp down hard on 'secularization' within the church. As a result of these events, we can expect a witch-hunt. He thinks that blaming it all on the perverts will gain him the sympathy vote in the wider community.

I love it when we get blamed for things that have absolutely nothing to do with us, like the 9/11 attacks or hurricane Katrina. The leap of logic it takes to blame homosexuals, rather than the religious extremists hijacking the planes, boggles the mind.
