Title: Medication timing is slightly off
Post by: Ac75088 on June 04, 2011, 02:34:03 am
Hey guys..it's me ONCE AGAIN....I was just wondering if I am putting myself in a position to be drug resistent with the screwy schedule my meds have been on..I have had a lot goin on since I started my meds last month with work..being in the hospital..and my social life with friends..When I first started my medicine I was taking it around 11:00-11:30 at night since I usually go to bed late..2 weeks after starting I was in the hospital and the nurse would bring me the pill at around 8:30pm..that timing went on for another 2 weeks..Now that I am back home I have been either working a late shift at work or meeting my friends out and getting home at 1:00am and have been taking it at that time..I know this may be a stupid question but is there a risk to what I am doing? I have not missed a night at all taking the pill, but the timing has not been consistent

You should be fine as long as you aren't going entire 24 hour periods without dosing.  What medication you're on makes a difference as well.  I've gotten to where I take Atripla before I go to bed, in a window anywhere from 10pm to 3am.  I've never so much as seen a blip in my viral load (which is under 20 and has been the entire time I've been getting tested).  My advice is to do your best to keep to a strict timetable when possible.  Perhaps you shoulod carry one dose on you at all times so that you don't have to be home to take it?

It is best to be as consistent as possible with timing until you become undetectable.  (Once you are undetectable, HIV stops reproducing in your body and so can't produce drug resistant mutations.)

But Atripla is about the most forgiving combo about timing anyway, so as long as you get it in each night you are probably fine.
