Good news and MORE good news.
« on: February 17, 2008, 08:46:10 pm »
Hi everyone

For all those who have supported me during the lead up to our 'De-Stigmatization Campaign" I just want to say thank you and to let you know that everything is set to go, posters are ready, story are now in print, interview dates with media, magazines etc are set, the campaign will run for two months..so now it's, Lights, Camera and ACTION... ;)
I'm flying to Auckland tomorrow so I will be away from home for a couple says.

The other good news I would like to share with you all is...I have been asked to represent the women of NZ at this years IAC in Mexico City by the members and the Board members of the "Positive Women's" organization, an organization I'm proud to be a member of.

After I got over the shock and managed to stop crying long enough to be able to talk to them I told them I would be honored to represent them, I have written to the members and the Board thanking them all for their support and for putting their faith in me...I have never done anything like this before, so while I'm very excited I'm also a little bit nervous, but I'm sure when the times comes it will all fall into place.

If someone had told me six years ago while lying in a hospital bed going through a very bad seroconvertion and thinking my life was more or less over..that I would be doing what I'm doing today I would have laughed at them...but with determination, commitment and will power it's amazing what we can achieve...and I never thought in a million years I would be a "Poster Girl" at 60.. ;) :D.

Hugs to you all
Jan :-*

I can't think of any better representative for them to have.  You'll be fabulous.

Dear Jan,

This is wonderful news! I am so happy for you. I'm looking forward to seeing you again at our next AMG. If I needed any encouragement to make it to Mexico City, this was it.

¡Congratulations!

Congratulations Jan.

Of course you will need someone to carry your luggage on this journey and to help with your spanish. Little ol' me is only small but very strong, and I can order beers in Spanish  ;D.

ps you only moved to NZ not America - can you please use 'organisation' rather than 'organization' in future correspondence.  ;)
pps do you know if there will be any coverage online - say in the nz herald or other newspapers/mags that we can take a peak at?

:D @ Steve..We, the Organisation will have our "De-Stig" stories in the NZ Herald, New Idea, NZ/Australian Womens weekly, Viva and NZGirl magazines.

I just had a phone call from Auckland to tell me a camera man will be calling on me tomorrow morning to take some footage of me at work with the animals...yeah!! my babies are going to be stars.. :D.., they thought it best to do something from home rather than in a hotel room..it will be used as part of a documentary that will be aired on "Campbell live" a current affair programme aired at 7pm every night here in NZ.

Thanks to everyone for your replies and for your support.

This is great news jan.  Do you mind double-dipping and giving your friends here at Aidsmeds the latest news you glean from the conference?   When Tim mentioned we would probably need only one drink what with the altitude and all, I figure we can fit you into our budget.

What a great morning "headline" to read.

Congratulations Jan.

I hope you can link us to any resulting articles or perhaps your group will post .pdfs of various items.

Frankly, I'm hoping someone in your group will ask your NZ media types to tap the shoulders of those at AP,UPI and/or Reuters and get some worldwide attention!

It could be just the right ball to roll 'round and 'round.

Worry not dear scuddles, hubby doesn't like to travel, so when I take off on my annual holidays my babies are in good hands, he looks after them really well for me.

Hope your recovery is well under way.

Take care
