Am I infected forums
« on: December 11, 2010, 04:57:42 am »
Not sure if this is appropriate, but does anybody else question the posts in that forum?  I don't comment there but enjoy reading them.  It appears to me that it's the same person is creating different aliases and enjoying the sexual aspect of posting his questions.  How could "newbies" know the adminsistrators by name and address them as such.  Also, these posters seem to know more about the testing processes and procedures than I do.
Being honest is not wronging others, continuing the dishonesty is.

That could be a possibility.  But I am sure the moderators have a way of knowing if someone is creating multiple aliases. And, if that is the case they would get banned.

I don't go over there. it's just a little too neurotic for me.

I usually catch the multiple account creators during the approval process so they don't even make it into the forums. Some slip by, but I usually catch them too in the end.

As for "new" people knowing our names, it's because they often spend a few days reading first before creating an account. Go into that forum at any time and there's usually quite a few "guests" reading. There are 18 in there at the moment.

I agree, some of the questions in there are enough to drive me insane, whether due to laughing at the pure absurdity or pulling my non-existent hair out because the people just keep obsessing about the same no risk situation. I remember when I first came to the site I had a question about whether I was infected or not, but that was because I had a positive ELISA and the doc had told me that without waiting for the Western Blot. I had wanted to know the odds of a false positive.

But the endless numbers of people who obsess about getting hiv from an unbroken condom with sex, or from fingering, or from kissing, OMG! Heaven bless Ann and the others who put up with that level of bullheadedness!

There was a question posted to the Am I Infected doctor at thebody called, "Would You Consider Shutting This Forum Down" or something like that.  The person who posted it felt many of the questions were so ridiculous that they must be fake.  He thought people were punking the doc and then sitting back and laughing.  The poster said many serious questions about PEP are not answered quickly enough to be of help, because of all the questions about whether someone's fart gave them HIV.

Dr. Gallant recently got a post where a guy said he was at a urinal and a guy next to him licked his thumb, grabbed the guy's penis, and then said, "Now, you're going to die Faggot."  Dr. Gallant said that had zero risk for HIV, but he also said he found that story lacking credibility.  He felt this guy made up the whole story.  I wondered what would possess someone to write to him making up a story.  It sounded very fake to me.

Being able to swing the ban hammer helps too. If they haven't had a risk and they start getting close to ten posts or so, I threaten to swing and if they persist, I swing. It's very cathartic. :)

Ann-

I'm honored to even glance upon its glory  ;D. I must say though, I often get a vicarious thrill when I'm reading through the Am I Infected forum and a poster is making a ridiculous number of posts about the same no risk situation, and then you or Andy come along and give them a time out or even ban them. Oh, its just so exciting to see! Yes, maybe I'm a ban voyeur  ;)

I would simply advise anyone worrying, if this or that gets one infected, to go for a HIV test to be ABSOLUTELY sure.
No ifs or butts.  ;D
A mountain high of assurances of, "You're Safe" will never satisfy those refusing to listen nor accept the obvious. Prolonging the agony of knowing absolutely through a test should not be entertained.  >:(

Multiple profiles are indeed infected with a different kind of sickness, one this forum would be wise to direct to other websites more equipped with dealing with mental dysfunctionality.  ;)

Can I make a suggestion for implementation in the forums in general? How about now whenever someone is flirting with being given a timeout or an outright ban, whatever moderator that is warning them includes a pictures of Ann's fabulous "ban hammer"? I think that would add some enjoyment to the forum reading experience!

We always advise people that anyone who is sexually active should be testing at least once a year anyway, whether or not they have had a definite risk. And I always tell the no-risk-doubters that if they don't believe us, to go test and collect their negative.

I agree that people who create new accounts to ask the same questions over and over again have some sort of mental health difficulty. We don't send them off to other sites because interaction on the internet is part of their problem. We advise them to see face-to-face help.

And just for the record, the Am I Infected forum is run very differently to the rest of the forums. We don't like banning people who are poz, but we don't mind banning people who are not positive and who we obviously cannot help further.
