Title: Infection from semen on cut
Post by: mandala on November 23, 2014, 06:47:27 pm
Hi folks.
I am a new member and have to say this forum is fantastic and would like to say thanks.I have trolled the forum and have come across a couple of similar questions but would like some more clarity on my own personal experience.I am a bi-sexual guy and connected a couple of times with a guy a few months ago and had protected anal sex which I was the receptive partner and unprotected oral sex without ejaculation.Just before he put a condom on though he pressed the head of his penis hard onto my anus a couple of times but with no penetration and then 1 minute later penetrated me with a condom on.I am wondering if any pre cum could have been carried inside me from penetration and be a risk ? The second concern I have was on the second meeting with this guy.We did not have sex this time but did have unprotected oral sex with no ejaculation again and masturbated each other.I am a builder and always have splinter holes and cuts on my hands but also just about 4-5 hours before we connected I cut my index finger fairly deeply on some roofing iron, similar to a knife cut.The cut was about 10mm long by about 3mm deep,it bled for about 20 minutes and did not bleed again.I forgot to put a bandade on the cut so it was totally exposed while fooling around with this guy.I think I might have fingered him with the cut finger and also he ejaculated on the same hand and I would say his semen definitely would have got into the cut.Would a deep cut this fresh be able to absorb hiv without any bleeding present ? He said he was clean but had not been tested for a long time so his status was unclear. The only time I have ever had unprotected anal sex was when myself and a previous guy I connected with  several times had just been tested negative at least 6 weeks post last exposure we both had.Even then we only made out without a condom for a couple of minutes and I asked him to put on a condom to keep going,I was the receptive partner.I have had anal sex only a few times and every time except the one just mentioned has been with a condom without incident,I am very careful with safe sex but these 2 incidents I have posted about have me a bit concerned. Thanks in advance for some clarity on this.

One reason you always see condoms condoms condoms as a part of ALL safer sex campaigns is because they work and are effective if used correctly and consistently .
HIV is fragile and hard to transmit and that is one reason condoms do such a good job at prevention . Once outside of the body small changes in temperature and PN levels render HIV unable to infect so that means HIV is sexually transmitted from unprotected anal and vaginal sex and not from fingering or getting it on your hands and contaminating every thing you touch . If HIV were that infectious we would all be in very big trouble .

You did not have a risk for HIV, you used condoms for anal sex and the oral was not a risk.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks so much Jeff.
I have only been a bit concerned mainly about the fresh cut on my finger due to being a fairly deep open cut.If it was a more superficial cut it would not have worried me but it was a fairly deep cut,not bleeding at the time though. So what would classify as a risky cut, would it just have to be bleeding at the time of contact with infected fluids/semen.

Sexual fluids are not infectious for HIV outside the body so you need not worry about the cut or being infected in the manner you are concerned with .
