Update on Bob
« on: August 01, 2009, 10:24:36 am »
If you are following the saga of my friend Bob who is experiencing liver failure, you will be glad to know that he is still "hanging in there"..basically there is no change in his condition and he gets his lungs and abdomen drained of accumulated fluid once a week. Tuesday is abdomen and Friday is lungs. Naturally he sticks to a no sodium diet etc.
The big news however is that he will be going to Pittsburgh to be evaluated for a liver transplant.  This is great news, because he has been turned down here at the U of Penn Hosp.
We are going camping this next weekend and Bob and his partner Don are going to rent a motel room nearby and "visit" the campground......its leather weekend, and all the Philly leather club boys will be there.  Lets hope Bob will be able to enjoy himself.
My partner Kurt has been "sitting" Bob two days a week while Don is at work. Steve, sits with Bob for the other three, so he is never alone.

Wow, that's great news about the possible liver transplant.  I know he's been waiting for something like this for awhile.

Have fun camping, Joel.  I'm sure you will. ;)

Hi Joel

I just wanted to echo Betty and wish Bob lots of love and luck with the evaluation, and have fun this weeend.

It sounds like Kurt and Steve are doing a wonderful job between them.

Hugs to you all

Joel,

I hope Bob gets good news in Pittsburg and in the meantime that you boys place nice camping.  Unless, of course, you like it rough!  :o  :D

We just returned from a three day camping trip.  Bob and his partner Don DID indeed make the trip and stayed in a TENT!  I am amazed at how resilient Bob is. He did not make it to the "events" but stayed on the camp site.....limited walking around. But people he knows dropped by to say Hi and chat.
It was a beautiful weekend until the rain started very early Sunday morning ...but we packed up and came home and no rain spoiled the events of the weekend.

Hi Joel,

Good to hear your friend is not giving up, and the possible transplant.  YEAH!

Also good to hear about the leather weekend, but alas, here in the desert humidity my leathers are looking kinda dry and in need of a good messy weekend in the woods.  Oh well, I'll take the days of sun anytime.

Moffie...
Friday night at the campground was "snuggle time" in a big way...it was clear and cold and low humidity.  A really nice change from the pea soup humidity that we came home to.
We tried to stay by the campfire as long as possible...then hop into bed.  Poor Bob...he couldnt get warm.  But like the trooper he is...he got thru it.

Hi Joel,

Hoping the transplant comes through for Bob. The only person I know who's had one is a HIV+ senior. He had it done about 5 years ago and it has transformed his health for the better.

Keeping fingers crossed that happens for Bob.

Cheers.

Wishing all the best for Bob on the 16th.

Bob has returned from Pittsburgh and says he is being evaluated by a team of specialists who will give a verdict about his new liver this coming week.
Lets hope for the best.

Hi Spongebob..(love that show.. :D)

Bear is pretty good at keeping us updated about Bob, so as soon as he knows what's happening or how thing are going he will let us know..it is a worry though when we don't hear from them..but I'm sure it will be good news when we do hear something.

Please refer to the new thread..."The Countdown Begins" .  Sorry if it became confusing.  Bob is "staus quo" health wise and now is waiting for a new liver to be offered him.
I will update that thread regarding the new liver. But not this one.
