Title: Condom break
Post by: Uk lad on January 19, 2010, 06:09:12 am
Hi

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on a Broken condom during vaginal sex at the beginning of November with a female of unknown status .  I am a heterosexual male. During vaginal sex the condom broke, as soon as I felt the condom break I immediately withdrew my time exposed would be a maximum of 2 seconds tops.  I've tested negative for Claudia and gonorrhea four weeks after,  the GU doctor said these were much easier to pick up than HIV, I  hope this is a good sign,  not had HIV test as I wanted to wait the full three months. I know you don't go into  symptoms.  But if I could list them it would get them off my chest

1- one week after had 4 night sweats over two weeks I hoped this was down to stress as they were at their highest during first two wks

2 - at three weeks had muscle aches in my upper back and nausea and pain in my neck not sure about glands and nodes,no rash no fever or weakness this lasted for two wks

I'm coming up to three months and have to say getting a bit scared. So any advice would be good

Lad,

Your risk is very much on the lowest end of the scale. You're more likely to walk outside your house and find an unclaimed, £5,000,000 winning lottery ticket lying in the gutter than you are to test positive over this brief incident. Seriously.

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and more so from a woman to a man. You were protected up until the condom broke and you withdrew immediately. I fully expect you to test negative.

Now relax and put this out of your mind until it's time to test. And please read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them correctly and with confidence. A correctly used and stored condom rarely breaks.

Hi Ann

Thanks for the prompt reply,  I can't say this has been easy but I will try and forget about it. I've never wanted to be negative over anything in my life as I do this. Hope your right

Lad,

Collect your negative result at three months and let us know. And please make sure you take the time to look at the condom and lube links in my signature line so you don't have to put yourself through this worry again in future.

Hi

sorry for posting was just wondering about a few things that I had read on some recent postings,  with regard to the advice you gave me. On some posts it says that being uncircumcised makes a difference, as I'm not does this have any bearing on my situation I'm assuming the lady was HIV+ she also performed oral without a condom but you say that their is no risk regarding that. My main worry was the condom failure if I'm honest

Many thanks

Lad

Given that most men in the UK are uncircumcised, I imagine the doctor at the GUM clinic took your foreskin into consideration when s/he gave you his/er assessment.

And so have we.

Receiving an unprotected blowjob does not pose a risk to you in terms of HIV transmission. You being uncircumcised does not change that.

As Ann has said, wait out your three months and collect your negative result.
