NPR had an interesting podcast (http://www.wnyc.org/shows/lopate/2011/may/11/patricia-t-oconner-memorable-movie-lines/) about infamous movie lines and how many were improvised/unscripted
So... I know everyone is dying to share some of their favorite quotes :o
-
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" -- No need to say where this one comes from.
And...
"All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up" --- Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) in Sunset Boulevard.
And...
"Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!" --- Mame Dennis (Rosalind Russell) in Auntie Mame
-
So many from Billy Wilder movies!
I always think about crazy Norma and that line when I'm feeling particularly deluded or am faced with another person out of their mind with delusions. Norma's such a compelling character that when that line comes at the end of the whole saga, its very moving.
Even when I was a kid I noticed and loved the "Well, nobody's perfect" last line in Some Like it Hot.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYUfPTeE0DM
The whole end scene holds out so much promise, hollywood style i guess, that everyone can find love and there are happy endings!
-
I've always relied on the kindness of strangers. Blance DuBois, in A Streetcar Named Desire.
-
"Nice fake hand ya got there, Munson. I bet it feels great when you're spanking the monkey"
(Can't remember the actresses name)
"We have a monkey?" Randy Quaid
Fom the movie King Pin with Woody Harrelson (Who the actress directed above quote at)
-
"Who knows? These are obviously jealous people; jealous of our careers, of our press. Why else would they sign it "The Filthiest People Alive"? Everyone knows that title has become my trademark. Why, to use it in this way is only to insinuate that they are filthier than I. How could anyone seriously believe that? How could anyone be filthier than Divine? I'm afraid our little vacation must come to an end. This must be nipped in the bud, it's already out of hand. We must outfilth the asshole or assholes who sent this and then THEY MUST DIE!"
--- Babs Johnson - Pink Flamingos
It doesn't get any better than this ;D
-
"This is the couch where they sit and say banal things to each other..."
---Babs Johnson, same movie
-
Gurls, get some education. Where in hell is Philicia when she's needed?
"Now you wanna talk about reading? Let's talk about reading. What is wrong with you, Pedro, are you going through it? You're going through some kind of psychological change in your life? You went back to being a man? Touch this skin, darling, touch this skin honey, touch all of this skin! Okay? You just can't take it! You're just an overgrown orangutan!"
--- Venus Xtravaganza (as herself) in the best documentary evah, Paris Is Burning.

cause you done lost your damn mind!"

And apparently she did. On a regular basis too...
-

Yeah it is filled with classics. It is funny how a movie with so many good lines managed to suck so bad though....

It's very difficult to keep the line between the past and the present. You know what I mean? It's awfully difficult. - Little Edie - Grey Gardens.

I had my Gay Card revoked quite viciously at Oilcan's Austin because I wandered into a group of people talking about Heathers and asked "What's Heathers?" I'm still on probation over it.

That's particularly offensive, I must say. I dare not ask in what other cultural pearls La Wumpette would be found deficient. I bet she doesn't know a single quote from Boys in the Band.
btw, care to guess which character in that I'm compared to?
