Thank you so very much for the info you shared with me.I suppose I could contact the Taskforce about this question, but are there many doctors in the Cleveland area that care exclusively for PWA'S?I am assuming that there is not alot available for PWA'S LIVING IN THE Youngstown area and that most find themselves having to go to Cleveland for Medical Care. One last question...Is there a program through the state of Ohio that provides the necessary drugs that PWA'S need?I am on Medicare and have no other insurance.

Thank you again for the input and please know that I greatly appreiciate the info you provided.

Hi Angel,

The answer is yes, there is the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, or ADAP, which is a part of the Ryan White Care Act.  Some states have waiting lists, but most are now capable of placing you on drugs as soon as needed.  Please check in when you have found out more about Ohio.  I would suggest that you inquire in the Living with HIV Forum, or ask one of the moderators to move this thread there, as it would more than likely get a better response there.

Angel,

Tim is correct, the Living forum is a better place for this thread so that's where I'm moving it for you. You'll most likely get more responses there.

I grew up in the Cleveland area and I can tell you that you really should try to find somewhere closer to Youngstown for your care. You don't want to be faced with a long trip for your care if you can help it. (Says the woman who has to fly to Liverpool from a Rock in the middle of the Irish Sea for her care! I should practice I preach! :D )

We positive people are everywhere... even in Youngstown Ohio. There's bound to be somewhere suitable there for you.

Good luck, keep us posted on how it goes.

Ann

Dear Angel,

You can find some information on www.statehealthfacts.org.  It was a contribution to my site from Forum member Jena.  State Health Facts is provided by Kaiser Foundation and navigates very well.

Ann is the best!
Since you are on Medicare and the Ryan White CARE Act reauthorization is not moving along as well as hoped, you may wish to send letters in support to Senator Patty Murry and Congressman Jim McDermott while still in Washington and then to Senator Mike DeWine and Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones in Ohio.  Sample letters and the Washington DC addresses of the legislators can be found in my site www.Commission-on-AIDS.org.  Have the best day
Michael

Michael is also the best!

Thanks so much for the info you have shared.I would love to find medical care closer to Youngstown rather than have to travel to Cleveland.Do you have any idea of doctors in the Youngstown area that treat people with AIDS.As it is now for me,I have to travel 232 miles round trip to see am AIDS specialist up in Spokane, Washington and that gets just a little bit old after a while.
Perhaps you would have a contact name of a case manager in the Youngstown area that I would be able to contact?I hope I am not being a pest however I want to be 100%in the know once I make this move.
                                        Thanks to everyone!!

Might I suggest that you contact the aids service organization that services the area you are moving to.  The organization that services my area referred me to a great physician and steered me clear of the physician my old MD referred me to.  They deal with many clients and are most likely aware of the doctors that are providing good care in their area.  Good luck with the move.  Try not to get too stressed.  Moving is in the top five of stressful life events.

Thanks to everyone for the input you have given me.If you come across anything that you think may be helpful to me in my quest to get back to my family,I would really appreciate it.I've been gone now for 7 years and I need to spend whatever time I have left with my sons and their families. It's great to have a place where others know exactly what your feelings and thoughts are. Thanks again all!!!
