Upperlip cut
« on: January 30, 2007, 07:44:23 am »
Hi everyone,

a couple of weeks ago, I went out with a brasilian stripper and we spent the night together having sex (with condoms). The following morning I shaved and while doing so I got a double cut on my upper lip. I stopped the bleeding by washing it off and returned to bed, where I enjoyed kisses and cuddles with the girl and then gave her oral sex. We continued with sex (again with condoms) and that's pretty much it.

After our quality time together I asked her a few questions and I got very nervous because of some of the things she was telling me and the risk she might have had encountered. She spoke of over 100 man she ha been with, some of whom were probably not safe and the fact she had also been a high class call girl for a while. I asked weather she had tests and she said she had various and the last one in September 2006, where it was all good. She was a very attractive and interesting girl but I have to say with a very peculiar and strange personality. That lead me to be uncertain about the test she said she had had and I got worried about her stories and the fact I gave oral sex with a double fresh cut on my upper lip.

Do you believe I was at risk in that situation?

Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

Neither kissing nor cunnilingus have ever been documented as the means of HIV transmission. They are common activiities so we would have known long before today if they were risks for HIV.

The female secretions which are potentially risky are in the cervical area way further up in the female cavity than the vaginal lips which you were servicing. And of course, you don't even know that the woman you were with was HIV+. So you're presently wandering around in the domain of what ifs, which is never a healthy place in which to hang out.

You aren't going to make history by becoming the first to become infected in this manner. Really.

Andy, I was aware that kissing is not a risk, I was just unsure about male-to-female oral sex like in my instance. As I have seen on this forum, you guys always give very detailed answers and that is very helpful. Many thanks for your quick and informed reply. All the best.

You're welcome.

And by the way, your saliva also has an inhibitory element which further protects you from HIV.

Hi to everybody!

I have found your advice and guidance in the past very very useful. Let me present you the case.

In the last two months I have been going out with a more stable girfriend and things are getting serious. For this reason, last week I went to do a general STD check, hiv included, since the last time I had one had been four years earlier and I was worried about few situations, where the condom might have broken and so on.

I collected the results and I am negative on all tests. I shared this with the girl I am going out (who in the meanwhile had booked a test for herself, due at the end of next week).

She was pleased but told me she was now terrified for herself, because over a year ago had unprotected sex. She finished this relationship before we met (they had gone out for about 2 years) and always used condoms, but (again) over a year ago, there had been an occasion where they hadn't. And she wan't sure whether to trust this person. I didn't ask how many times they had it without. I can only assume a couple of times for what she said.

Anyhow, the reason why I am telling all of this is because 10 days ago we had sex and as always with a condom, but suddenly her period started and I found my private parts fairly covered in blood, except the penis, which was protected by the condom.

I got the condom off, washed myself and that's it.

Since my test is ok now, if by a remote or maybe not so remote chance my girfriend is not ok, what is the risk of infection for me, given the significant amount of blood on my body? (To be said, I didn't have any cuts or similar in the areas where the blood was). What's your take?

I will clearly wait to know what her results are next week, but I would really welcome your opinion on this matter.

Best.

Alex

I've merged your threads. Please keep all of your entries in this same thread.

As far as your current concern, the most important thing is that you were wearing a condom for intercourse. As far as HIV is concerned you were protected even if you had a lot of menstrual blood on your privates. You have no cause for concern about this incident.

It's good to know she's getting tested. That's the wise move. Good luck with her test result and keep us posted.

Cheers,

Andy,

Thanks. As helpful as always.

What you are saying is that there is no need to worry over the accident even if her test was to come out positive? (fingers crossed on the opposite happening)!

And if that is the case, you don't think I should get tested again?

Best.

Up,

Even if this woman is hiv positive, you didn't have a risk. You used a condom and condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. It doesn't matter that you got menstrual blood on your skin. No risk. You don't need to test over this incident.

Ann, Andy,

Thanks again. Very helful.

You see, to have a negative result and to go back worrying again for a recent event where you had protection it's quite nerve wracking. Especially because to see all that blood on you is quite scary anyway.

Since I know that the internal part of the skin covering the tip of the penis is the area most at risk for men, you always wonder whether blood has gone there while cleaning myself up, which it could have after I got the condom off.

If you say, no risk, I trust your experience.

Thanks for your guidance.

Best.

Your fears are very understandable, Alessandro. After all we're talking about your health and your life.

But the most important thing is that you had a condom on during intercourse. The rest of what you are worrying about is in the "what if" category, which is never a good place to hang around in. Like Ann I don't see any cause for concern.  Nor any need for testing beyond what we recommend for everyone who is sexually active, which is that at least annually you have a full STD panel done.

This time I say you're good to go so get busy with other stuff now.

Cheers,

I will.

I have just finished writing a film script, so I need to polish it before sharing it with producers.

I will need to have my head focused on that if I want to nail it the right way!

Thanks again for all your advice.

Best.

Keep the condoms handy, use them everytime. That should help you with having a clear head. Good luck with your film script.

Dear Ann, Andy,

Just a quick question.

Unprotected sex is the riskiest factor, but out of curiosity for my gf. She had unprotected sex in one occasion as mentioned to you earlier on.

Does it make any difference at all whether the man comes inside or not?

Thanks.

Alex

Hi Alex,

Yes, it does make a difference. Unprotected intercourse with ejaculation internally is definitely riskier. However, even without ejaculation there is risk so she should definitely get tested. Given it's a single incident without ejaculation the odds are very good that she will test negative. But HIV status is never something to guess about so testing is definitely the way to go.

Cheers,

Andy,

Thanks again.

I thought it would be less risky. She has taken her test today anyway and is petrified; as always in these occasions where you are unsure and you know there has been a risk. We'll know by next week.

Best.

Alessandro
