Title: Justice Department not charging Fannie Mae
Post by: jack on August 24, 2006, 02:13:19 pm
Why should they. They only cooked the books to the tune of 10 billion. They hid bad trades for 5 years. They stonewalled investigators for three year causing enormous expense and costing the investor billions. Much of the book cooking occurred just before execs collected enormous bonuses.
CEO was Franklin  Raines and Ass. CEO was Jamie Gorelicked. How can the government prosecute itself, especially when you donate huge sums to the campaigns of members of  both parties? Members of both parties use this government backed institution as their piggy bank and any prosecution would have made these type of immoral if not illegal actions public and put many congressmen out of office and probably in jail

You would. But most of the dough went to dems and the main two crooks both worked for Clinton when he was president. There must be some very important Reps involved also or the republican bill to put more stringent oversight on this mess would have passed. Hopefully both Raines and Gorelick will go to the slammer but I doubt it.
This will happen again. If people are not punished for their crimes, the next people will think they have nothing to lose and it appears they don't. Too bad the justice dept didn't use the same vigor on FNM as they did on ENE,arthur andersen, and others.
