changeing kaletra to truvada and sustiva pls help urgent

hello guy
            my wife is on (kaletra,tonofovir,lamuvidine,)once a night and i told our ID DOC if he could change her combo to another due to too much pills of kaletra.,i suggest(TRUVADA,and SUSTIVA)Because this is the only two or three pills combo available in thailand now.

but our doc was afraid of resistance if she has problem of the combo she cannot go back to kaletra again,so pls help us on what will be the best option. my question is can she use truvada and sustiva at the same hence truvada is like tenofovir and lamuvidine? and this morning she to see our ID doc and she was order to take blood test about her iron or RBC and the result came out with low iron or RBC so what can she do to recover back

Truvada and Sustiva is a common regimen. 

I'm not clear on what's the problem.  It seems unwise to switch from a successful regimen just to take one or two fewer pills a day.

I don't think that changing from one regimen to another automatically means that the first one is now "off limits".  Resistance to a drug is main reason one can't go back (well, unbearable side effects too), and you aren't indicating that the current regimen isn't working.

hello,reason why we want  to change the regimen is not that it's not working but due to the price of Kaletra here in thailand the cost is 8000baht and the pills was not like the American type it's about 8tabs not like 4tabs.and in bangkok we can only get that type at the welfare office and by then she need to show her social security tax which look like she've to disclose her status to every hospital and nurses and moreover she's thai.

Hey Sanitex,

Pill burden is a common reason for people choosing to change combinations, especially if they are paying per tablet - a 'streamlined' combination can be easier to take and less expensive. 

Abbott have received alot of criticism internationally for their reluctance to discount Kaletra to governments struggling with the cost of making medication available to many.

If your wife is taking:

Tenofovir + lamivudine + kaletra, then swapping to Truvada and Sustiva will give:

Truvada = (Tenofovir + emtricitabine) + Efavirenz

Emtricitabine and lamivudine have the same resistance profile, so this is an easy and safe switch.

Efavirenz will be effective unless there is resistance to the NNRTI group - this can be checked with a blood test - you will need to ask about cost.

In some countries Truvada and Efavirenz are available in 1 pill taken once a day.

There are many potential causes of thalassemia in people with HIV - this would need further investigation by a doctor.

I switched immediately from Kaletra and Truvada to Susitva and Truvada before I was undetectable with no problems, given that your wife is undetectable I can't see an issue.

                    pls do not misunderstood me by posting this topic here ,while because i don't want to creating another newtopic again here hence you guys have read the topic before i'd like to know something. my question are ,as we are on diffrent combo is't possible to have unprotect sex,?or can we put ourselves in resistance issue? or inasmuch as we are undetectable we can have it?pls help
