I do not have that number - my Doc just said that on a scale of 1 to 8, that I am a "six"!

Is this the right forum for this question, do you think? Are there Doctors on here that could advise me? I am new to this site. My own Doc here in Southern Illinois has no idea what to do to keep me from developing diabetes, because my weight is already at a bare minimum!

No doctors here.

What meds do you take?  Some HIV meds have a bigger metabloic affect than others.

Do you exercise?

Hi, I am new to this site. Does anyone know how I can keep from developing full blown type 2 diabetes. My Doc says that I am "a 6 on a scale of 1 to 8". The thing is, I am already at my absolute minimum weight, so I can't afford to lose any. I am a very long term survivor with Tcells around 1100 and undetectable.

Welcome to the forum Gartener . I moved your questions about the same subject into a single thread so that you have have all your concerns and questions answered in one place .

I have type 2 diabetes brought on by years of lipid problems and 30 + years of living with the joy of HIV   ;) . I take long acting insulin but was on much more before I changed my diet . I can sometime go a few days now without insulin .

A diabetes diet consist of low carb low fat meals so you can get started on that on your own . I would make an appointment with a nutritionist that specializes in diabetes if I were you .

Diet worked for me and delayed the onset for about 10y. now

In the first 6 months I was put on Glucophage, which helped, then I kept it at bay w/ nutrition+exercise only

The last few months I am back on Glucophage... We will see ...

So the chances that you can do something are not zero

Cheers

Eric

Thanks, Guys, for your input. I will check out Glucophage and try to access a dietician.
