Title: Will my test come back positive?
Post by: AlwaysBlack on January 17, 2013, 02:21:29 pm
Ten months ago, I receive anal sex from a guy.  He used a condom but I discovered afterwards that the condom had broken - it had a large hole in the end.  I went to hospital and took PEP for 28 days.  Four months after the last dose of PEP, I took an HIV test and it was negative; they sent my blood to the lab and that came back negetive too.

This was July 2012.  So, 4 months after the broken condom incident, I got 2 test results which were negative.

Since that time, I've:

1. had protected anal intercourse, I was the top with 1 guy (condom used correctly; it did not break)

2. sucked a few guys but they did not come in my mouth

3. a guy penetrated me whilst wearing a condom (the condom did not break; he inserted for only 20 seconds as I panicked and asked him to stop).

So I've had a lot of sexual encounters, but no unprotected sex (always with a condom, and it never broke).  I religiously use condoms whether I'm top or bottom, I would never willingly do it without.  I'm scared that a condom might break, it prays on my mind a lot.

I'm now paranoid that I've contracted HIV either from my behaviour over the past 6 months or from the incident of 10 months ago with the broken condom.

So, yesterday I went for an HIV test.  They said my result will be ready in 7 days time.  The wait is agonising.  I cannot get the fear out of my head that I might be HIV positive.  I'm terrified.

What do you think, please?

From everything you have written, I see nothing at all to indicate that you could possibly test positive.

Hi JKINATL2,

thanks for your response.

I rang the clinic just now and they said my HIV test result was NEGATIVE.

They said they had used the HIV1 and HIV2 p24 antigen test.

Does this mean that my test result is completely Negative and conclusive?

kind regards

You have reliably tested negative for HIV. You ARE HIV negative. Period. End of story.

You can stay that way in terms of sexual activity by always without exception making sure the insertive partner is properly wearing a condom for anal intercourse. It's just that simple.

Now get on with your life. HIV is not your problem.

Thank you, Andy.   I will try and move on from this and will always use condoms religiously (as I always have in the past).

I wish all your staff the very best and thank you once again for the wonderful support. x
