Hi There

Thank you all for the great work. This platform really helps.

I had a condom slip. I felt it and immediately withdrew (Pulled ou) i would like to believe the exposure was minimal as i pulled out immediately after realizing that the condom had failed.
The condom was left inside the lady she had to insert her fingures to retrieve. Now after speaking to her she revealed she was poz and i sort PEP immediately. This was around 35hours after the incident.

Iv now just completed the 28 days and worried sick about the outcome. I know odds and stats are never an indication but in your opinion,
1. Have you ever come across anyone who tests poz after a condom failuer such as above
2. Have you ever come across an incident of PEP failuer.

Please help freaking out.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, every time, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about taking PrEP as an additional layer of HIV protection

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as 'safe' in terms of HIV might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please get tested at least yearly for STI's, including but not limited to HIV. Test more frequently if any condomless intercourse occurs.

Note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and, the only way of knowing is by testing.

Update. So 6 weeks after exposure, 2 weeks after pep took a 4th gen Elisa blood drawn from arm lab test which came out non reactive. Now i know you always say 6 weeks from last pep dose. How reassuring is this Neg result. And in your experience have you seen such a result at this stage change at 6 weeks post pep

Hiya,

Try to relax, odds always were in your favour, and any non-reactive result is good news.

At two weeks after PEP, it's a good indicator, and I would not expect the result to change given the exposure type & the PEP.  However, do retest at six weeks post PEP to confirm.

As always thanks for the great work.

My situation is like this, i wore condom preparing for sex. as i lay on top of the lady before penetration the rubber broke. possibly due to pushing or forcing on wrong area. she immediately also then said you dd not penetrate me. i went on to put on another condom and we then had sex.

what im worried about is if there is a chance i may have actually penetrated slightly as there is no way of telling. I ddnt feel penetration or wetness even when rubber broke.

What would your assessment be in such a case.? should i be concerned?

Sounds like nothing happened and afterwards you are having some irrational doubts. However, I was not there.

If there was condomless penetration, you would have known about it and it's an HIV risk. To confirm your HIV status, test at six weeks post potential exposure with a blood-draw (lab) HIV antibody test. The result at this time will rarely change, and retesting at three months generally isn't needed. I also recommend you get tested for far easier to acquire STIs.

Perhaps. Paranoid. In the event i decide on PEP, i have a trip in 10 days to the UK. is it advisable to pack the meds in my check in luggage?

No, pack in your hand luggage. Keep any meds in the original packaging and consider bringing a letter/note from your GP stating that the meds are for personal use.
