Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Ambiguous Results and Disturbing Symptoms

Hi,

11 months ago I received a handjob from a guy that was very likely HIV+. Some anal fluids were present on his hand during the handjob. Ever since I experienced disturbing and persistent symptoms pointing to HIV: sore throat that went on for months, itchy skin that is not going away and chronic diarrhea. I also tested positive for E. Coli in my stool. Apparently a strain that is commonly found in immunocompromised patients. I also have persistent neck pain on 1 side. So far my 4th gen and RNA HIV tests have been consistently negative after testing multiple times and well beyond the window period. However, my lymphocyte counts don’t look good: CD4 580, CD8 571, CD4/CD8 1.01. CD57 count is also high.
Has anyone been in a similar boat? Could someone give me some advice? I really feel desperate.
Is an HIV DNA test worth it?

You had no HIV risk whatsoever from the handjob.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms, and the only way of knowing is by testing.
