PEP questions

I was a guy last week who is HIV positive. I was topping him and we used a condom. After he came, he was giving me oral and I came in his mouth some. I went to the bathroom to clean up and noticed that I had a blood on the head of my penis. I didn't feel anything happen, but it was like a paper cut. I noticed it because I went to clean  off and I pushed it and blood came up. It was just like a paper cut on the finger except down there. He told me his status and that he was on meds and undetectable.   I didn't notice any sores in his mouth or anything like that.

I was worried so I went to the doctor and started PEP treatment within the 72 hour time frame. The doctor prescribed me three drugs: Trustada, Prevista, and Norvir. I started the Truvada about 48 hours after exposure, but I didn't get the other two meds until today and it's been 4 days since I started the Truvada.


I've done a lot of reading and some people that are on PEP only take Truvada for the 30 days though. I'm wondering if I need to be on all three. If so, will the other two still be effective since I haven't started taking them yet. I also wanted to know what people thing my risk is. There was blood but it was very small amount and like a surface cut. I'm not sure if that matters though.

If anyone has an advice for me I'd really appreciate it.

OK, three things

1.You need to be posting in AM I INFECTED. It gives you three free posts. PLEASE read the various READ ME threads in the future.

2. You had no risk and don't need to be on PEP. I wil cheerfully elaborate once this thread is moved. You have two free posts left.

3. My advice? Quit taking meds you don't need and quit overreacting to no-risk situations. ALWAYS assume that your partner is HIV positive until you are in a mutually monogamous situation and have been tested together at the appropriate time.  And if this means no sex until marriage, then so be it. You absolutely need to educate yourself more thoroughly about HIV transmission.  Please use the extensive lessons on this site to do so.

Here's a protip: Use a condom for penetrative anal and vaginal sex and you will avoid HIV. No matter what else you get into, do that one thing and you will avoid HIV. Period.

It really is that simple.

As Jonathan has told you, you have NOT had a risk for hiv infection. Even if you never discovered this guy was poz and on meds with an undetectable viral load, you would have had the same answer from us. NO RISK.

The protected intercourse was just that - protected. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect. The cut on your penis does NOT change that fact.

You do NOT need PEP. In your case, it's a shameful waste of expensive meds that some people actually need to stay alive.

As long as you use condoms for anal (or vaginal) intercourse - even with people who claim to have undetectable viral loads - you will be well protected against hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!
