Index finger inflammation
« on: October 16, 2023, 01:26:09 pm »
Hey everyone  ;D I hope you are doing well!
I have a doubt that I'd like to share and see if somebody else went through something similar.

I'm positive since 2001, undetectable ever since and I'm under generic Fovato (Dolutegravir 50mg + Lamivudine 300mg). Last check-up was 2 weeks ago, CD4 around 850 and UD VL.

Over the past 3 to 4 months I have been developing pain and inflammation on my left index finger (I'm left handed so I'm constantly using it). This coincides with the fact that I also started sort of intense Ashtanga yoga practice 2 to 3 times a week (which is being very good for overall fitness) and also that I'm noticing that I might be overusing my phone (although that's always been a trait of mine).

What I started to notice was that in the morning I felt the finger stiff and couldn't flex it completely. Also during the day, especially after using it or after working out, it tends to get more painful.

I talked about it with my ID doctor which told me it's uncommon for it to be HIV-related.
I also saw a rheumatologist that ran me several tests (for autoimmune diseases) and for now has told me she doesn't think it's an autoimmune disease but it could be party inflammatory due to HIV). I went to a traumatologist after (the only doc whom I didn't mention I am poz) and he told me to try to figure out which repetitive action I'm doing with that finger that could be affecting it. (I'm mostly considering excessive phone use, or maybe some posture I'm doing wrong in the Yoga practice).

Has anyone had inflammatory tendinitis or arthritis similar to this?
I'm using diclofenac or indomethacin gel at night (to avoid oral NSAIDs). I also usually drink smoothies with fresh turmeric (which I grate and freeze to have readily available) which I feel helps with pain.
I also sometimes use hot and cold compresses, which the traumatologist suggested me to do 1 minute cold. 1 minute hot and so.

Do you have any advice or ideas?

I have to do some images for the traumatologist (Rx, Eco scan).

I might go back to the rheumatologist if it doesn't get better with time.

Hope the swelling and pain eventually go away.

Best regards to all,
