"Milk" and Prop 8
« on: January 08, 2009, 08:58:47 am »
I just saw Sean Penn in "Milk".  What a great performance in a great movie.  I can't help but think that if this movie had come at before the election that Prop 8 would have been defeated.

I'm very proud to be an out gay man.  But this movie made me feel even more proud than before.

See this film!

Yes it was a good film.

Considering how poorly the No on 8 campaign was run, it probably wouldn't have made a difference. I believe the passing of 8 has rekindled significant activism, not only within the LGBTIQ communities but within the straight communities and gay affirming faith communities. Finally, at least in Sacramento all of these diverse communities are talking with each other and discussing ideas of working together in making change.
I am involved in a grassroots organization that is building outreach to the faith communities. So far we are training people to lead discussions with churches that are "split" in their decision of accepting gays and lesbian, etc. and the ones that are in the process of reconciling (in the process of becoming gay affirming). We are also putting together a program  much like Food For Thought, where we set up potluck dinners at the very conservative churches with members from different LGBTIQ communities and a mediating church.

It's too bad that the media has focused on "boycotts" and vandalism from the No on 8Er's, because that doesn't represent the majority of what is happening in cities across the state.

"It's a Great Fucking Movie"

I was surprise to find that I'd really really liked it.  It is a must see movie.

I just saw it today.  I enjoyed Diego Luna's portrayal of Jack a lot.

I actually only found it a "good" movie, not a great one.

??? Whatever babe... if i were to list the ten greatest movies in the last thousand years, "Milk" would be on the top of my list, then would come "Brokeback Mountain."  ;)
