NYC Support Group for Long-term Nonprogressors
« on: May 04, 2018, 06:09:18 am »
The title may not be strictly accurate. I do, now, take meds,  but did not for over ten years into my HIV diagnosis. I tested positive in 1987. I recently have felt the need to connect with others who have lived with this for a long time - especially through the initial years when everyone was just dying.  I think I have a lot of unresolved grief issues.  I've tried calling the Center (run around), GMHC (no luck) and the State Dept. of AIDS (I forget the exact title - but the agency which is supposed to deal with HIV/AIDS issues - they referred me to the general state health dept (WTF?). So, I thought I'd try here.  Does anyone know of a support group in New York City for long-term survivors? Thanks for any info/help.

Hello DD,

Although I don't live in New York,  thought you may try contacting these groups:

Positive Health Support (New and Long Term Survivors):

https://www.naminycmetro.org/positive-health-support-group/

Bridging Access to Care:

http://www.bac-ny.org/new/

Being Alive (In California but may have New York Referrals):

http://beingalivela.org/programs/emotional-support-for-hiv-and-aids/

Hope this helps at least a little.

Best,

OT

I am coming to NYC next week. June 29
We can form our own group.

Where can we meet?

Picnic in the park?
What a long strange trip it's been
