HIV Prevention
« on: May 24, 2007, 09:10:00 pm »
I thought I was replying to the POZ article of May 23, 2007 entitled
Department of Lowered Expectations: The CDC Tightens its Belt.

I recently heard an idea for HIV prevention and harm reduction that struck me as having great potential.  Pastor H. suggested getting sororities and fraternities, particularly at HBCUs, to weigh in with efforts to increase HIV prevention and harm reduction practices - including needle exchange; perhaps more than the future 10% decrease of HIV infections described in the POZ article would be attainable with this scientifically proven method of prevention for IDUs and their drug-using and sex partners. Nationwide and international support and positions on needle exchange by sorority and fraternity members might have a positive added impact.

Anyone in a big sorority or fraternity and willing to talk more about this idea?

Sorry...no FRATBOY here...But FRATBOYS AND SORORITYGIRLS, GO FOT IT! [/i]It reminds me of the guy in the Masons (?-somebody help me here) or some other business fellowship who went around the county speaking at Lodges(?) out about his Son's HIV. There was a documentary made on it and clearly I never saw it or I wouldn't be such a lamebrain on the details. Besides being the best Dad in the world, look what this individual did politically! Anything that cuts through snobbery or fear regarding our disease and "who gets it", and gets into the nitty-gritty of risk/harm reduction COULD BE A REAL LIFE-SAVER! Imaginary new prevention/harm reduction ideas are needed badly!    8)  -megasept
