Are GlaxoSmithKline and Gilead Sciences the same company?
« on: April 17, 2009, 01:39:19 pm »
I was reading this http://www.aidsmap.com/en/news/0FD7E528-29EF-4D60-B0A6-4F46FB0A9FE7.asp article on AIDSMAP. It says that GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer are forming a joint company. At the end of the article it says that GSK has a pharmokinetic enhancer and an integrase inhibitor in Phase II clinical trials. Um, but as far as I know Gilead Sciences is the company with the integrase inhibitor and the pharmokinetic enhancer in Phase II clinical trials.

Maybe I am wrong though. Those seem like really large mistakes, though. I wonder who proofreads these things.  :-\

Nope, different companies.

Pfizer is working on a PK enhancer called PF-3716539, currently in Phase I studies. GSK has an integrase inhibitor in Phase II called GSK 1349572. And now, they'll both be studied further under the new spinoff company being developed by both pharma cos.

Gilead has its own PK enhancer (GS 9350) and integrase inhibitor (evitegravir) in the pipeline.

Oh wow. I didn't know that. I stand corrected.

I think it is great that they have an integrase inhibitor and a pharmakinetic inhibitor in the pipeline. Maybe a 2nd generation inhibitor to overcome resistance to the first generation integrase inhibitors.

Tim Horn,

Do you have any information on these two investigational medications? I don't see any information about them in the "Medication" section of the aidsmeds.com site.

We generally only write up new compounds that reach Phase II (only because so many never make it out of Phase I). While I do have some info on the integrase inhibitor and will post something to our site next week, I don't have any information of value on the PK enhancer.

Will repost here once I've got some info. live.

to me this is like :" we need to see HIV arround for as long as possible,so we can sell our new medications to the lab rats "
God grant me the serenity to accept the things i can not change.
