« on: June 14, 2008, 08:10:06 am »
 8)

We try to get down to St. Pete, twice a month. Between the two of us, we have quite a few pieces of clothing to donate today.

We will stop at the Metropolitan Charities, it' a thrift store, down on Central avenue , near Downtown.

After that, a walk around the waterfront, and some of the shops in Downtown.

Then..... A fantastic lunch !! It's gonna be a scorcher today !!

I was in Orlando for business back in '02.  I had an extra day to kill, so I drove to St. Pete for the afternoon.  I was impressed at how nice it was.  The people I talked to were extremely friendly, everything was clean, and it was just so pretty in general.  I haven't been back since then, but I'd love to spend some more time there and see if it was as nice as I remember it.  It'll be hot today, but probably not as bad as last weekend was!

We had a great day down in St. Pete, yesterday. After arriving at the thrift store, we gave the clerk at the desk our donations. We then proceded to do a little shopping ourselves.

While going through a box of tapes and cd's/DVD's, at the store, I managed to find a new DVD, entitled "After Goodbye" It was still wrapped in plastic, and never used.

After reading some of the label, I realised it was made in 1993 for a presentation on PBS, by KERA-TV, Dallas/ Fort worth. I had never heard of it before, perhaps that is one one of the times I was in my seclusion state of mind.

"After Goodbye" is an "Aids Story" featuring the "Turtle Creek Chorale", An all male chorus from Dallas, Texas.

http://www.turtlecreek.org/

Award winning actress Ruby Dee narrates this powerful documentary about the impact of aids on the families, friends, and members of the acclaimed Turtle Creek Chorale. It is produced, directed, and edited by Ginny Martin.

When this documentary was produced in 1993, 145 members of the Chorale had died, most from HIV and Aids. Although grief, is a constant presence, "After Goodbye": An Aids Story shows the singers and their loved ones engaged in a continual process of healing.  This ultimately uplifting and inspirational video is a testament to the amazing strength of the human spirit.

Even though it was difficult at times, I am glad I watch it. If it is possible to view this, I would highly recommend it,, Better have a box of kleenex by your side. It was emotional and moving, and a flash back...

David, If you ever get around this way again, Send me a PM, we'll show you guys around !!St. Pete has gone through a lot of changes these past few years. It's got a great little downtown area, and of course, it's not that far from the beaches !

I never heard of "After Goodbye," but if I find it somewhere, I'll definitely watch it.

I love stories like this.  Its kind of like it was waiting for you to find it and take it home.
Guess what I turned up yesterday while going thru some books my former partner had.  The "healing" tape that was put out by two (gay) guys who both were HIV positive:  Will Garcia and George Melton
                                                     HEALING MEDITATIONS
                                                     ----------------------------------
                                                        emotional release
                                                      crystal body clearing

If memory serves me correctly they had become famous for claiming to have been HEALED of HIV and made lecture tours and the whole bit, then they both died

Yes, I remember those fellows.  When all the toxic meds were being thrown at us, the ASO here (which then consisted of a couple rooms) had books from these guys, Louise Hay etc. in their library.

St. Pete can be lots of fun.  I love riding over and hanging out with friends at some little dive beach bar.  D
Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

yummy!  crystal body clearing!  Remember there were always wackos back then who insisted that they no longer tested positive for HIV after such things.

I've been rolling my eyes at such things for 15 years.
