ANyone real good at using iTunes? (help)
« on: January 07, 2008, 03:19:53 pm »
I got my other half an ipod touch for santa day. Thats not the problem, its using iTunes.
On a usb hard drive, I have two folders. One of a lot of his ripped music cd's in mp3, and a second
folder of my mp3 music.
In iTunes, it wants to mix both folders of mp3's into one "library".

I made a play list with his name and brought all his folder music into it.
Now I want to make a play list of mine only music, but how?
I can make a second play list for me, but how to get only my music into that list?

In the "library", all the music is mixed together, tons of mp3's.
So figuring his from mine and dragging song by song from the “library” would take forever.
There must be an easy way to keep all separate?
Or put the music from my usb folder into my play list in one process?
Or better, separate "libraries" in the first place?

I hate to break it to you...but I am not sure you can...it will either over write yours or his...I think you would have to share one library if it is on the same machine...

I wonder if this would work.  Restore your iPod first (to clear all songs from it) and take everything out of iTunes but don't delete the delete the .mp3's (back'em up to a new folder if you want to with a folder for your songs and one for his).  Then, bring all your songs into iTunes and sync your iPod so all the songs are on it.  Create a play list with all your songs in it.  Now, bring all his songs into iTunes.  Create a play list for him and add all his songs to it.  This is kind of a work-around, but it might accomplish what I think you're trying to do.

Alternately, you can use Anapod Explorer from www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/.  It's not free ($30 I think), but it's not as picky as iTunes is in that it doesn't 'marry' itself to your iPod like iTunes.  Check it out and see if it'll help you.  I use both Anapod Explorer and iTunes depending on what I'm trying to do.  Good luck with it!

How I deal with itunes:

My partner has the account & library loaded on his computer. We upload and download all to his account.
I have a folder named Mikes Music in his library. When I want to change/delete/add anything to Mike's Music, I simply drag and drop from his library.
When I plug my nano to his computer Mike's Ipod is recognized--same thing.....I just drag and drop to my nano from Mike's Music.

The way I deal with iTunes:
I hand everything to hubby and say, "I need some music, please"
After a while, he hands it back to me and begins to explain what he did.
I politely put my hand up and say, "just show me the play button."
He does and we're both happy. ;D

Thanks all. I'll look into Anapod Explorer. I was wondering if anything else besides itunes could be used.
