How long till it's "right" for you to have sex after being diagnosed?

Boy, you can go straight to a sauna from the lab with the ink of the "+" still fresh on your lab test, if you feel like it. I'm sure some people might have done that.

But anyway, you have to do it when you feel it's right for you. You're still the same person, if you wear a condom, you won't be doing anything bad or wrong.

As for disclosing, same thing: do it when you feel comfortable about it. Since you like this person, I suggest you tell in person and try to tell as if it was something natural. If you treat it as something out of this world, he may see it in the same way. Explain, educate, if necessary. And if he acts in a stupid way, it's his loss, not yours.

Amen to that!  Latest reports say that if you are undetectable there is a 96 % chance of passing the virus, not to say don't use protection.  Only do it when you are ready, and if he reacts badly then he's  either uneducated or just a jerk.

The best time to have sex after being diagnosed:
1) when (you feel) you're ready
2) when you're relatively healthy (=your numbers are better; and after you've been vaccinated against hepatitisA,B, and maybe HPV)

Syphilis can be a problem, and using antibiotics prophylactically can be helpful* (doxycycline is safe for long term use, as evidenced in treatment of acne, and prophylaxis of malaria, but it may cause photosensitivity skin reactions).

*
Chemoprophylaxis is likely to be acceptable and could mitigate syphilis epidemics among populations of gay men.

Ceftriaxone and doxycycline could be suitable alternatives to penicillin in the treatment of early syphilis in HIV-infected patients. These two treatments have a concomitant effectiveness even for asymptomatic forms of neurosyphilis.
