So Depressed in 5 months
« on: November 29, 2012, 05:45:58 am »
Dear all members.
Please help me to answer my question. I have rapid weightloss 15,5 lbs in 5 months and other symptoms that indicate to HIV infection several weeks after exposure such as mild fever, fatigue, headache, diarrhea, sore throat, etc.
Until now i experiencing sore throat, something stuck in my throat , easy to get tired even without heavy activities, light headed, forgetfulness, blurred vision and i saw many floats and dark lines in my vision.
I only take HIV test SD bioline Rapid Test in 5 month post exposure wich is NR... and cd4 counts 688 - 34%
My question are,
1. based on the symptoms, am i contracted with HIV?
2. How accurate my test was? my counselor said i need to get retested again. Am i experiencing delayed seroconversion?
3. About my cd4 counts... is that okay i have such low cd4? i'm so terrified about low cd4... is it indicate hiv infetion?

Please answer my concerns and my question... it really helps me...
Thank you very much before.

Medes,

You do NOT have hiv. You are conclusively hiv negative. The NR on your lab results means Non-Reactive, which means negative.

1. No. Hiv can only be diagnosed through testing, not symptoms. Your test result was negative, therefore hiv cannot be causing your symptoms. If you feel unwell, see a doctor to find out what actually is causing your symptoms. Whatever that may be, you have already ruled hiv out of the picture.

2. You do not need further hiv testing at this time. The window period for conclusive hiv testing is three months. You are conclusively hiv negative.

3. You don't have a low CD4 count or CD4 percentage. They are both in the normal range.

You do NOT have hiv.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thank you very much for quick response Ann....
i really appreciate that... :)

i'm so deppressed and worried about delayed  seroconversion time Ann...

Did u ever find people who took seroconversion time longer than average?

I found out that stress can suppress immune system...  could stress/deppression delay seroconversion time?

i'm in third world country - developing country ... i'm afraid the people here don't have such good immune system as people on developed country as yours... :(

Re-read what Ann has said to you. Her answer was comprehensive and affirms without a doubt that you are HIV negative.

Stop with the what ifs. HIV is not your problem. If you are having problematic symptoms that is something for your to discuss with a doctor. HIV is not the cause. Period.
