It's Only the First Week of January...
« on: January 06, 2007, 12:34:26 am »
Hey All,

Just wanted to give a quick update.

1.  I got my latest numbers today.  CD4=200, vl <50, %=22.5.  This is great news since I just started my meds in September 2006.
Hopefully I'll be able to stop the Bactrim after my next set of tests in March :-)
2.  The doctor provided me the name and number for a local support group.  I will call them next week.
3.  My sister and I had my parents over for dinner tonight.  While my dad was sleeping, I took my mom aside and finally disclosed to her.
I went for the quiet, rational approach and only broke down at the end.  She held me and fussed at me for thinking that I had to
deal with this by myself.  She hugged my sister for being there for me all this time.  We agreed not to tell dad just yet, mostly
because of his own health problems.  I know I will tell him eventually though.  Anyway, she and I have the same primary care physician
and he's also does care for HIV/AIDS patients so I'm staying with him for now because I trust him and he's been really helpful.  She
will come to my next appointment.
4.  For those of you who read about my disclosure to my first true love... not only was the weekend incredible, he's coming back to the
US to stay and we are planning to pick up where we left off...   ;D  I think I'll be starting vitamin supplements.... :o
5.  I have a cold and the doc gave me cough medicine with codeine.... ::)

So as you can see -- life is good!!

Hello TSW923,

Glad to hear that things are going well for you, and by the way your numbers look, you may be able to stop the bactrim shortly. It's always a great feeling to be able to drop on pill !!

I know disclosure is never easy, but it sounds as though you handled things very well. Looks like a good, supportive wonderful year coming your way, in every way possible. Get rid of that cold. Get plenty of rest, drink lots of juices. Stay on top of your health....

Take care-----Ray

Hello Joseph,

I responded to The original poster, In forming him that he may soon be able to stop the bactrim , because his numbers are now getting up in the 200 range.

You quoted me And then said "Scratches head.

This left me to think, that you had some question as to the comment I made to the original poster as to stopping the bactrim !!

Perhaps there is justt a communication error here, or maybe I am losing it.

So, I responsed back to you, asking you if you had a question in regard to the poster stopping the bactrim... ???   ???   ::)

I hope theats a little more clear :)

Great update, TSW.  I thank the fact that you can go back and read the past posts, too, because I would have misplaced who you were.  Someone else has had a similar hurdle to jump and I can hope that he/she also gets over it as gracefully.  Best, Win

Life is always better when you have cough medicine with codeine!

Congratulations on the good labs, your disclosure to your mom, finding a gem of a boyfriend, and for making it through these last few trying months.  It's great to have a sister you can count on, too.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll be able to stop the Bactrim after the next blood work! Icky-poo!!

Keep up the good work!

Hey all,

First of all I am a woman  ;D  One day I will be brave enough to post a picture!!

I know I have been blessed beyond compare.  I went from a really dark place in August to a really good place in December/January.  I thank God each night for what he's done for me.  This is not to say that I'm always super cheerful, some days, like today I really feel like crap, but overall I feel that God has been with me more than ever before.    Or maybe I'm just more in tuned to it than I have been?

At any rate, Queen, you are right, I definitely will be taking my vitamins, I'm not as young as I once was...  ::)  And if the bf and I are going to act like we are 21 again, I will need to build up the strength!  Does anyone know if you can soundproof an apartment?!   ::)  Fortunately or unfortunately, there will be no doubt that performance is up to par :-)

I will keep y'all updated!

Eric -- I sit at your feet waiting to absorb the knowledge  ;D  I think my neighbors will thank you for sharing that with me!!

So... the saga continues.  I finally got ahold to my ex boyfriend to let him know that he needs to get tested.  Turns out he was tested in December and came back negative.  So that's definitely a load off my mind.  Of course I ended up comforting him as he was crying and apologizing for all the drama he put me through while I was 'so sick'.  I was kind of touched by the whole thing, though I don't think for a minute that it would have been different had we known my status when we were dating.  And I had to let him know that I am seeing someone else so he didn't' have to 'get back with me to take care of me'....sigh.....

Ok guys, so 2 more hurdles:

1.  I have the number of an ASO person I'm supposed to call.  I will call tomorrow but I have no idea what to expect since I'm working, etc.  Maybe she can suggest a support group in MD?  Are you guys going to support groups?  How is it helping?

2.  What to tell my manager?!  I have read through disclosure topics on the site, but I'm not 100% sure I want to disclose to my employer.  However, I am sick and taking off tomorrow.  My manager sent me several emails asking was I ok and 'is work making you sick?  Because it seems that you've been sick a lot lately'.  Now, I was out for 2 weeks in August 2006 for the stomach virus that eventually pointed out that I was HIV+.  Since then I was out mostly for a series of tests, etc.  I also took vacation in October (partially to acclimate to the meds.)  And while I was sick last week, I went to work EVERY DAY.  I had my doc call in my antibiotics to NYC (where I work during the week).  On Wednesday and Friday of last week I didn't go into the office, but I did work from the apartment all day and was available all day.  So when I'm sick I try to work from home so I don't take actual sick days.  I think I have to change this though, so I can focus on getting better instead of dragging whatever illness out.  But I'm going to have to tell my manager something.  My mother has suggested saying I have asthma or some upper respiratory thing that may keep me out from time to time.  My friend has suggested saying I have a weak immune system so I will get sicker than most folks when I do get sick.  I don't know.  I'm not good at lying... I've thought about the 'chronic illness' route, but what happens if he asks what the illness is?    Of course none of this is going on paper or in email, I will talk to him on the phone or face to face.  But I feel like I have to say something.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,

TSW

I told some people (and some of you may NOT agree with how i worded this but it got them off my back early on) that I work with that I have a long term terminal illness that affects my health to varying degrees at various times.

Thats IT.

AC -- Thanks -- that is one approach and I'll keep it in mind.  My thought is that I do my job when I'm there and according to my utilization I worked 798 hours in the last 6 months (the average for the company is 650) so I'm doing more than what I'm supposed to do so cut me some slack...
