Had Flu Shot...Shingles Vaccine Also Suggested...
« on: October 06, 2017, 04:48:53 pm »
Given the Shingles Vaccine is a weak live virus, has anyone else had the vaccine administered?

The Pharmacist said that they require that you remain in the clinic for about 1/2 hour for observation after the Vaccine has been administered because some people become dizzy and/or pass out.

My GP and HIV Specialist said it was OK to have the Vaccine.

I had chicken pox when I was 21 and I'm scared of shingles.  But my doctor wants my CD4 count higher before I get the vaccine.

Hey OT,

I got my shingle shot when I turned 60 and I didn't have any noticeable side affects.
My doctor actually pushed it, I've seen shingles and I want no parts of them.

I hope you can get yours soon also Jody.

Best,

Wade

When I was diagnosed 3 years ago, my doctor said it wasn't advisable bc it's a live virus. I think the consensus is moving toward relaxing those guidelines for people with HIGHER CD4S.
But being 30ish, I don't know if I should get it now when it may wear off in 30 years.

What does your doctor think?

I have only got an OK to get my flu shot so far but my ID doctor said he has many immunizations he wants me to get once my CD4 numbers go up (well they can't get any lower).

Based on what the cdc.gov says, those that have HIV/AIDS should not get the shingles vaccine.

I'd be curious to see what others have to say.

I am in favour of getting every vaccine that doctor says OK to.

My CD4 is around 720 and have been non-detectable for over 15 years.

Given my profile, the Doctor said it would OK to get the Shingles Vaccine.

I got the shot a year ago when I turned 60.  About one hour after, I began to feel strange, similar to how you might feel if you're coming down with the flu.  That feeling diminished a couple hours later and I was fine the next day.

Perhaps it's psychological, but after the shot, my recurring episodes of genital herpes seem to have diminished in severity.

I asked my GP about shingles Vaccine and he said they they only give it to elderly people in their 60's. I had three bouts of shingles over the last two years and it went away after a week and half after taking aciclovir tables.

There is a new vaccine that was just approved last month... Talk with your doctor about the different vaccines available...
