Two years today
« on: January 02, 2011, 09:09:58 pm »
It was two years ago today, I smoked my last cigarette.  The year before was practically smoke free with 10 months behind me but my dog died and followed by a relapse of two months.  I signed up for the American Cancer Society to get Chantix while that prescription carried me through my official quit day of February 21st, I stopped the day before the prescription was filled on January 2nd with one refill to carry me through the hard times.

February 21st was my graduation day and my first anniversary with the greatest man in the whole wide world....  Since the first anniversary was Paper, I gave him my certificate as an anniversary gift.  Does anyone know the appropriate gift for the third anniversary.  It can't be Marlboro Lights   ;D  Have the best day

Congrats on the anniversaries -- both of them.

Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I have ever done -- Jan 22nd will be 18 yrs smoke free for me.

As for your other anniversary, Google says that the Modern gift for a 3rd is crystal, but perhaps you are more of a traditionalist -- in which case, that would be Leather!

Enjoy........

Mike

Today marks my second day without a cigarette.  When does the urge to rip my skin off go away?

Crack was much easier than this!  I hope to be where Michael is one day... I could probably smoke a whole cigarette on one drag right now... >:(

I guess I should turn in my Vestal Virgin card because, I never though leather as the appropriate gift.  A leather collar with a leash!  One for a lop eared rescue dog to drag me up the San Francisco hills and right past the shops with the dancing cigarette packs singing "take me, take me" at the cash register.  On some days, they still do that.   ;D  Have the best day

Heroin is easier too. I tried Champix (what they call Chantix in the UK) and while it was helping me quit smoking, I was one of the minority of people who end up with severe depression and suicidal ideation. Not like me at all, but I do tend to get those side-effects from drugs known for that possibility, which is why I'll never take Sustiva.

Michael, I envy you and everyone else who has the ability to quit smoking. You'd think that someone who quit a heroin habit without rehab or even methadone and who quit drinking alcohol when diagnosed with hep C no problem would have such a difficult time giving up cigarettes but dayum, I really struggle to go more than 48 hours without. So well done to all you former smokers. I'm downright jealous!

Nice idea. Or maybe some crystal-studded chaps. :D

Congrats on quitting smoking. I've know lots of people who quit crack but can't quit tobacco.

Today marks my second day without a cigarette.  When does the urge to rip my skin off go away?

With today being your third day without a cigarette, your entire body is screaming for nicotine and the last day of the physical demands for a smoke.  Now, the psychological part kicks in.  Get rid of the ashtrays, get a big bag of candy and something to do with your hands.  Today is a great time to smoke a joint because marijuana cigarettes do not have the chemicals used in curing like tobacco does.

Pop the hood on your car and open up the battery... Battery acid and many other toxic chemicals is commonly used in curing tobacco.  Our stop smoking group was sponsored by our HIV clinic and one fine Saturday morning, we went to the local community college to see and touch the human lung in an anatomy class.  We were given tubs of smokers lungs and non-smokers lungs to feel and touch.  Hmmm... Human Lung!

It takes the human body 3 years of cell replacement to completely rebuild new lungs.  If this is correct, I will be sporting a new set of lungs by January 2, 2012 (a benefit).

Back in AMG 07 several of us gathered outside the hotel to smoke.  I remember a Forum member huffing and puffing away as he asked if I had tried Chantix yet.  "If it works, why are you smoking?"  It does take some group effort.   ;D  Have the best day
Michael

Yeah the inkling to stop started during last semester while I was taking an Anatomy and Physiology class.  The professor was a retired doctor who kept telling me he was worried about my "wet" cough as he put it.   I guess it became more apparent to me once another person started pointing it out.

My breathing already seems clearer....  I guess this could be considered a good thing.
