Urgent advise needed
« on: November 17, 2017, 10:07:20 am »
Hello,

I am new to the forum.

About two weeks ago i went to a brothel in Berlin, first and last time.

The CSW (female) gave oral intercourse without a condom. During the sex we started with a condom. I was under heavy influence (alcohol) and suddenly noticed that condom was gone and there was possible (menstrual) blood. It was at least not mine, when i checked the following day my penis was intact. I asked the lady about her HIV status but i can't recall what she answered exactly. Not sure if she said no, or that it is my imagination is hoping that.

A day later i panicked and went to the hospital. After i insisted they provided me with PEP (combivir 1-0-1 and kaletra 2-0-2). I started PEP around 44 hours after exposure. One of PEPs with relatively more side effects if i may believe the internet, i am on this for approx. 2 weeks and planning to complete it despite the side effects.

The doctor told me i should care more about hepatitis b and other STIs as the change on vaginal intercourse is relatively low. I was vaccinated for hep b but unfortunately, after a check, my resistance was too low (2 out of 10 something). 9 days after possible exposure i took a new hepatitis b vaccin should and should get my next one next week.

Now the one million dollar question, what do you think that the odds of acquiring HIV are for me? I am a very nervous and worried person and would really appreciate your input / view. Will my hepatitis b vaccin still help in case of exposure? I am really afraid for a co-infection.

Thanks for advising everyone here, including me.

I hope that your words and advise can help me.

Thanks.

Hi,

PEP has an excellent record of preventing HIV when started within 72 hours of exposure, which you did. We focus on HIV assessments here, but other STIs are much easier to transmit so work with your doctor with regards to your hep b vacine.

Testing is recommended at 6 weeks post PEP and again at 13 to confirm your result.
From what you have posted I would expect a negative result when you test.

Best,

Wade

Thanks Wade. But what do you say my changes on HIV are? My doctor at home even said they would not be very likely to give me PEP for this as vaginal intercourse even with blood is considered a lower risk. What is your view on this?

I will not comment on what your doctor or others have said, only state facts.

Unprotected intercourse ( no condom ) is not low risk, it is how the virus is sexually transmitted and you chose to seek PEP

I can not speculate on odds, all I can tell you is PEP has an excellent record of preventing HIV. Finish your PEP and test in the guidelines I have already given you.

Best,

Wade

Hi,

I am back.

Completed my PEP succesfull. Tested 14 days after exposure on Gonorrohea and Chlamydia, both negative.

However 26 days after exposure i got a flu, recovered in 2 days. However 33 days, a musquito bite got infected on my hand and i also have muscle/joint pains at different locations in my body. I received antibitiocs for the infected bite. I believe my lymphnodes near my gentle parts are also slightky swollen. What are the chances that this all has to do with ARS?

I am very anxious and wake up panicking in the night. Hard times to get asleep.

Please help.

Thanks

The chances that your real or perceived symptoms have anything to do with ARS are small because symptoms of acute HIV infection, if they occur at all, vary widely.

As mentioned, PEP has excellent documented results in keeping a potential HIV infection from taking hold.

Other than that, there simply is nothing else a moderator can do for you on this forum at this time.

You will need to await your HIV-antibody test and followup confirmation test in order to conclusively determine your status.

If you need help with your anxiety, consult with your healthcare provider.
